A bunch of tales I wanted to share with you

A tale I read

A tale I heard

Actor and writer Mindy Kaling on the suggestion she is the 'standard-bearer for diversity in Hollywood':

“It used to be frustrating how much interviewers would want to talk about my otherness. When “The Mindy Project” started, I felt as though other showrunners could talk about the character or the story lines or the casting or what shows inspired them. For me, it was all like, “How come your parents didn’t lock you in the closet as the draconian Indian parents that we know they must have been?” Or people would say, “You’re so brave to wear those outfits.” The implicit feeling is: You are ugly. Why do you think you should be able to wear those things?”

A tale I wrote

I hope your cheeks are always Rudolph's nose.
I hope the wreath-green lightening bolt
on your thigh was sewn on by a loved one.
I hope your knee holes were from fun.
I wonder if you ever questioned why
it's reindeer saying Ho Ho Ho on your socks
and not Father Christmas. I hope not.
I hope you chose your fire-red John Lennon glasses.
I wonder if you'll always feel comfortable
wearing your snow-white curls. I hope so.
I guess this time of year might be tough
in the playground with your elf-pointy ears.
I hope your light green coat doesn't make it worse.
I guess your candy cane smile
makes it harder for the Scrooges to Scrooge.
