The Gardens Trust Events

Intro to Garden History course and Winter Lectures take centre stage

The sell-out Introduction to Garden History course which we ran at the Garden
Museum earlier this autumn is back by popular demand. The course, aimed at those new to garden history, covers the periods from medieval to 21st century gardens. This time we're running it over three Sundays - ideal for those who have other commitments during the week. It's likely to be very popular so book your tickets now to avoid disappointment.

New Year, New Lectures! Now only weeks away, our popular London Lecture series kicks off in January with "Herbariums and Garden History: the Fulham Palace Experience". Discover how research revealed overlooked plants that helped the Fulham Palace Trust re-envisage this garden during its recent restoration. Book online for this lecture or save and book the whole series

Following on from this, Dr David Marsh will be looking at the little known Nicholas Leate, a Jacobean flower merchant who was "a lover of all faire flowers". His story serves as a good example of how garden history fits into the wider social and cultural context - you can get your tickets here.

How English is the English Garden?

Call for Papers

English Heritage are hosting a conference at Wrest Park, Bedfordshire in June 2020 and are welcoming proposals for 20 minute papers. The concept of the English garden often brings to mind images of rambling roses roaming free amongst herbaceous borders, and this has become ingrained in the national consciousness. However, the history of the English garden is long and complex and this conference will focus on the international network, and the designs, people and plants which have been both imported to and exported from the English garden from the medieval period to the present day.

If this sounds like one for you and would like to find out more about the conference or submit a paper, see the details on our website
