Beginning January 1, 2020, businesses and organizations throughout the Charleston region (including City of Charleston, Town of James Island, and Charleston County unincorporated) will be required to eliminate use of single-use plastic carryout and merchandise bags, as well as certain plastic carryout and food packaging items, such as polystyrene/Styrofoam™.
This ordinance was passed by City Council in November 2018.
