OPIRG Carleton (Ontario Public Interest Research Group) is a student-led, student-funded non-profit based at Carleton University. We aim to research, educate and provide action on social and environmental justice using a non-hierarchical and consensus based space for students to organize.

A working group is an open collective of individuals that choose to work on a specific issue or campaign. OPIRG Carleton supports several working groups including Anakbayan Ottawa, Books 2 Prisoners, Herongate Tenant Coalition, Students Against Israeli Apartheid, The Leveller, and Yoga Unity. Books 2 Prisoners: Monthly Meetings
Books to Prisoners sends free books to prisoners across Canada and the US, and responds to letters from prisoners. As an abolitionist group, they believe that education and human contact are important to maintain mental health while incarcerated.

Beginner Beats: Beats & Music Production Workshop
Join Pass the Vibes for part two of a free Beatmaking 101 workshop facilitated by SeiiizMikk on Sunday, December 15 from 4-8 p.m. at Origin Arts & Community Centre (57 Lyndale Ave.) Participants will get to experiment with the tools, techniques and equipment needed to create independent audio projects. Registration is required.

MMIWG Final Report Reading Group (ongoing)
Trigger warning: The content of this event is focused on the final report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
Kind Space has committed to hosting ongoing, intentional space for people in our communities to read, process, discuss, plan, and act on the Calls for Justice together. Non-indigenous folks are encouraged to come through Kind Space (222 Somerset St. W) on Monday, December 16 from 5:30-8:00 PM.
Reading groups will take place roughly every two weeks and varies days/times depending on availability of that space. It is not a requirement to attend every reading group.

Celebrating Black Ottawa: Nominations
For Black History Month (February 2020), OPIRG Carleton is focusing on highlighting and celebrating Black community members who have made outstanding contributions to the community. Submit nominations for community organizers, educators, mentors, storytellers, artists, musicians, creatives, etc.
Nominations due January 1, 2020.
