DECEMBER 2019
  • Charitable Gifts with IRA Charitable Rollover– Contributions to qualified charitable organizations can be deducted, provided you itemize your deductions. If you are over age 70.5 and have not taken your required minimum distribution (RMD) from your IRA account for 2019, you might consider making direct transfers to Interfaith Food Ministry, thereby satisfying your RMD requirement while avoiding taxation of the distribution. Contact your IRA custodian or trustee to arrange the transfer, which would need to be completed by December 31, 2019, to count for 2019. It’s best not to wait until the last minute to initiate the transfer.
  • Raley's 33rd Annual Food For Families Holiday Drive- This holiday season Interfaith Food Ministry will benefit from Raley's annual holiday food drive! Visit our local Raley's at 692 Freeman Ln. Grass Valley, California and make your donation at the check-out stand.
  • Facebook Fundraisers- If you’re on Facebook and would like to easily share IFM with your friends and family, invite them to donate via our latest Sponsor A Family For the Holidays Facebook fundraiser. Facebook is a great way for IFM to raise money because so many people have the capacity to see your shared info at once and can then be inspired to share with others. Or make a contribution and let your friends know why this is important to you. Click here for FB Fundraiser .
  • Donate Directly to IFM- The season of giving is upon us. Would you like to donate money to IFM in someone else’s name? Go to our Network For Good IFM Donation page and dedicate your contribution to someone you care about. We also have Sponsor a Family gift certificates for sale on our website.

GOSPEL AND GIVING RECAP

We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to local bluegrass band
Boston Ravine , Emmanuel Eposicopal, and the Heirendt family for last month’s benefit concert, Gospel & Giving for Interfaith Food Ministry. Boston Ravine’s young member Mei Lin Heirendt came by IFM with her mom and Father Seth from EE Church, last week to present IFM with the check of the funds raised for $1780. This event brought so many in the community together that there are now plans for another show next Spring. We’ll keep you posted as details unfold.

BRIARPATCH/PATCHWORKS

Briarpatch raises funds and awareness to local non-profit organizations with their CAUSE program by letting customers round-up their totals at the register. As their designated non profit for November, Briarpratch raised $6270 for Interfaith Food Ministry. Thanks so much Briarpatch! This comes at a time when many local families are struggling to make ends meet and will be put toward our Sponsor a Family for the Holidays fundraising efforts.

Other news with Briarpatch coming in January 2020 is a new program called Patchworks. IFM has been invited to be part of the program that will bring more volunteers to Interfaith Food Ministry through the Briarpatch community. Learn more about this exciting new program.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES IN 2020

The new year is upon us and it’s a time when many are gearing up to make bigger efforts to get their health in check as soon as January arrives. For others, they have decided 2020 is the year they will finally get out there and do something for their community. Why not do both? According to articles in Harvard Health Publishing and Mayo Clinic:
  • Volunteering decreases the risk of depression.
  • Volunteering gives a sense of purpose and teaches valuable skills.
  • Volunteering helps people stay physically and mentally active.
  • Volunteering may reduce stress levels.
  • Volunteering may help you live longer.
  • Volunteering helps you meet others and develop new relationships
Not to mention the joy that comes from being able to make a difference to the lives of the people in your very own community! A community where we all have our basic needs met is a community that thrives.

Interfaith Food Ministry is ready to train volunteers in 2020 in all departments including:
  • Distribution
  • Packing
  • Business Admin
  • Client Services
  • Fundraising
  • Special Events
  • Contact agloria.ag@att.net to get started.
