Congratulations to all those who have performed so brilliantly over the last ten days. We are very proud of all our wonderful children, Infants and Juniors; and thank you parents and grandparents for all your support over the last few busy weeks.
Today we have celebrated a festive day together, and enjoyed a traditional visit from Father Christmas. Thank you parents for all your hard work and wonderful support today.
Tomorrow, sadly we have to say goodbye to Miss Cowen. It will be her last day at Grantham Prep, and after Christmas she will move to another local school. We will all Miss Cowen very much, staff and children. She is a very creative person and has always supported the children in our care in a very positive and caring manner; we wish her every success and happiness in her new role.
Tomorrow school finishes after our carols at 12.30 pm, but is open all next week for our school holiday camp.
On behalf of all of us at Grantham Prep, thank you for your kind words and gifts.
We all wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We look forward to the children returning on Tuesday 7th January.
Many thanks for your support.
Enjoy the weekend.

Last week, Reception, Class One and Class Two went to the Nottingham Playhouse to watch a colourful and lively re-telling of the story "Sleeping Beauty." It was great fun to end the week joining in with the songs, "Boos" and "Cheers!" The characters played their roles very convincingly and the children enjoyed all of the action. Everyone was on their very best behaviour and members of the public were delighted to mention how smart they looked in their matching school duffel coats. Alex and Hugo were lucky enough to be chosen to go onto the stage to help the pantomime dame sing a song and they represented the school beautifully. Thank you Mrs Dawson for arranging our transport and interval snacks. We all had a lovely time. Oh yes we did! Mrs Bell
After considerable preparation, effort and cheer, the Christmas production has been showcased this week at the "Royal Grantham Preparatory School Hall"; the venue was appropriately donned in lights and glitter.
There was a distinctly 'Strictly Come Dancing' feel this year and the children thoroughly enjoyed demonstrating their acting prowess. I was so impressed with the amount of lines and cues ALL the children managed to learn. That aside, the fact that all the infants managed to learn some somewhat 'interesting' dance moves is exceptional.
As you can all tell, the teachers have had a lot of fun rehearsing the songs and performing on the stage. I always feel it is an invaluable opportunity to see the children in another light. Students are granted the opportunity to shine and display their talents to the world.
I commend each and everyone of the children and staff on their professionalism, positive attitude and performing to their maximum potential! A performance such as this one cannot be achieved without the hard work from teachers, parents and most importantly... the children!
A special thanks to: Emily for making the stars; Miss Cowen for too many things to mention; The Friends of TGPS; and, Mrs Dixon for the Christmas decorations.
We certainly had a terrific time performing it, Broadway here we come!
Before half term, Year 3 wrote poems about monsters they had created and these were entered into the Poetry Monsters competition. They are lucky that all poems entered, have the chance to be published in a book.
This week in the ‘Steam Session’ class three and four were challenged to create a 3D Christmas tree. The activity was set up in the Art room and the children had to work out how to replicate a given shape on to card. Following this they cut out the intricate shapes and measured accurately the necessary lines, that enabled each shape to be successfully fitted together, before finally creating the 3D shape. They were challenged to use their creative ability to transform the tree into a beautiful festive design through the use of colourful patterned foil and other materials.

STEAM
On Wednesday afternoon, year 6 took the chance to use their STEAM skills of paper folding to make some festive decorations, gift boxes and origami.
Congratulations to Cora who represented the Midlands team last weekend in the Olympic Pool, Stratford. She finished 6th in her 50 m Backstroke, 4th in the 200m Medley Relay and 5th in the 200m Freestyle Relay. Cora had a fantastic day and has three years of wonderful memories to look back on - and a very bright hoodie to wear proudly.
We are very lucky to have such talented Music teachers at our school. Mrs Bower, our violin and class music teacher is playing at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham in the concert "Around the World in 80 minutes".
Our Brass teacher Mr Taylor is also going to be very busy this Christmas as he embarks on a tour with singer Kate Rusby.
For this project the students started looking for information about the most remarkable people of the 19th century in the history of Spain. Once they had all the information, it was time to do some crafts and make the game-board. Finally, they took part in a tournament where they could show their knowledge about the unit while continuing playing and learning.
The aim of this project was to learn and review relevant information about these historical figures.

The art department together with the students really did a great job creating the walking books which brought happiness and fun to those who watched and also to those who presented them. An all-around the school creative project.
