Call for Annual Conference Workshop/Presentation Proposals!
We’re currently working on some of the big ticket details of the 5th Annual Green Schools Conference. We’re aiming to have the conference held in the beginning of August. We will share additional details about the conference and registration soon.

At this point in conference planning, we are requesting proposals aligned to the conference themes identified below:
  • Outdoor Learning & School Gardens
  • Environmental Education & Social-Emotional Well-Being
  • School Green Team Support
  • Transforming Schoolyards Step by Step
Proposals are due on Sunday, Feb 23rd. We will review the submissions as a group at the February GSCM meeting and make recommendations on which workshops/presentations to include in this year's conference.  An outline of last year's conference agenda including themes and workshops can be found here.

Schoolyard Redevelopment Project Updates
Each year, five Milwaukee-area schools begin an intensive, collaborative process to design greener, healthier schoolyards. Each project is tailored to the specific needs and enthusiasm of the school’s community but often involves replacing seas of asphalt with green spaces including bioswales, rain gardens, and trees. The placemaking designs go beyond simply removing pavement, however, to maximize triple-bottom-line benefits.
  • Welcome Cohort 4 schools that have just started the process to develop a conceptual plan and vision for the future!
  • Support Cohort 3 schools as they begin the fundraising phase. These schools will work throughout 2020 to raise the funding necessary to support their conceptual plans.
  • Stay tuned for updates on Cohort 2 schools that will start construction in Summer 2020. $2.6 million was raised in 2019 to support these projects!
  • Be inspired by Cohort 1 schools as we share examples of student use, curricular connections, and other positive benefits of the newly redeveloped schoolyards.
