One Question Poll
The Brisbane Hockey Association (BHA) has a rule (from season 2019) that all Semi-Finals, Preliminary Finals and Grand Finals are decided, in the event of a draw at normal full time, by the 8-second shoot-out.
The Brisbane Masters sub-committee sought your opinion with a one question survey of database members.
The result from the 118 respondents was 51.7% said NO and 48.3% said YES, they agree with having the shoot-outs. As well, respondents were able to add their Comments, of which there were 29.

AGM & Planning Day outcomes
The AGM was held in November and subsequent to that the Planning Day meeting for 2020 was held.
More information to come in following Newsflashes, but one option to be implemented is to have 6 teams in the MHL1 division. Currently five Clubs have nominated teams for MHL1 in 2020.
The proposal is for the 6th team to be made up from players (who desire to play MHL1) from Clubs who do not have a MHL1 team.
This team could be called something like Barbarians, and would need someone to manage the team each week. Other considerations will need to be addressed, but the committee feels the challenges can be overcome.
As part of this process, the committee is striving to have five MHL divisions each having six teams. This would eliminate byes and give variety of opposition each week.

Masters' Database changes coming
Soon, you will be able to update your database profile preference to suit Season 2020.
One of the changes is the way you will be to nominate your preferred position/s on the field.
Here is how the choices will appear on your profile database (when available).
As a PLAYER you are asked to nominate your 1st 2nd Choice team position (your 2nd Choice can be the same as the first choice) using the following codes...
GK = Goalkeeper
FB = Fullback
WH = Wing Half. (Left & Right Halfback).
MF = Midfield. (Centre Half; Inside Left & Inside Right).
ST = Striker. (Left Wing; Centre Forward; Right Wing).
++++++++++
The profile database will also give you the options to nominate to represent Brisbane in the State Championships, as well as nominating to be Coach, Umpire, Manager or Selector for Brisbane.

Masters' minimum age now 34
At the Hockey Australia Masters Delegates’ meeting held in Melbourne on Saturday 7th Dec 2019, a change to the age eligibility for HA Women’s and Men’s Masters Championships was confirmed.
The Over 35 Championship at each HA Championship will now become the Over 34 Championship.
Players who will be 34 years of age by 31st December 2020 (i.e. Born 1986) are eligible to compete in the HA Over 34 years Championships for Women and Men.
Exemptions for under age players born 1987 will not be approved.
All other age Championships will remain the same i.e. Over 40, Over 45, Over 50 etc.
The change to the Over 34s Championship will allow selectors to identify players who are able, in the following year, to represent Australia for World Cup or Trans-Tasman Challenge international events as an Over 35s player.
Masters Super Nines rule changes
There have been a couple of minor rule changes for the Brisbane Masters Super Nines in 2020.
  1. To qualify for Finals, a player must play at least 2 games in Pool rounds (prior years it was 1 game).
  2. Each team must have 4 players 50 or over in their squad (prior year was 2)
  3. If Grand Final ends in a draw after regular time it will go to Shoot-outs (Best of 3 then, if still even, Golden goal). (prior years it was to go to 5 v 5 )
The PC rule hasn't changed but it is important to advise again as it was the one rule in 2019 that did cause some confusion.
Penalty corners: Four attackers versus three defenders (of which one must be a GK). All other players to go beyond halfway. Three attackers are to be outside the 23-metre line when the ball is injected by the fourth player (from the baseline normal injection spot OR anywhere further towards the sideline along the baseline.) The ball must go over the 23m line before a goal can be scored. Penalty Corner defenders start behind the backline but goal side of where the "D" joins the backline.
    Defenders must be at least 5 metres from the Injector at the timing of injection. The first direct shot must hit the backboard regardless of whether it is a hit, push or drag flick. The first shot may be deflected above the backboard.
