Here's what we have been up to recently...
Greetings from Tom, Alina and Thibaut at 2hD Architects!

We’ve done well in competitions

We’re delighted that 2hD’s inflatable pavilion in Lille won an RIBA East Midlands award in September! Later this week Alina will go to Barcelona for the prestigious World Architecture Festival Awards, where the project has also been nominated. We’re up against some of the world’s best architects for that one!
A couple of our other projects have also been shortlisted for awards: our Jewish Memorial was up for an RIBA East Midlands award and our design for the Structures On The Edge competition on the Lincolnshire coast gained us a shortlist interview.

We’re bringing sustainability to the fore

We’re currently working on three projects with strong sustainable credentials, backed up by clients and collaborators who really believe in what we’re doing. Our eco retrofit of a 1920s house in Loughborough is in detailed design, following a rigorous home energy masterplan set out by Hockerton Housing Project team. We are applying the PassivHaus Planning Package to the design of a new house in a village Conservation Area. And nearing completion is the conversion of a Victorian garage in Nottingham into a cosy, low energy, double-height living space.

We’re doing more work outside the UK

With Thibaut establishing a 2hD branch in Norway, our portfolio of work in Europe continues to expand. The remodelling of a lakeside house at Espa and design of two holiday cabins at Renåfjellet are amongst several projects underway in Norway. Our self-build stone barn conversion in the Dordogne is progressing well; the client is delighted with our 3D computer model as a way of communicating the design and detailing. And did we mention our award winning inflatable pavilion in Lille?!
Our design for the Structure on the Edge competition

We’re continuing to work with artists and arts organisations

Our collaborations with artists are starting to become a regular feature. In addition to 2hD’s shortlisting in the Structures on the Edge competition with Tristan Hessing, we completed The Lost Cuckoo project with Marcus Rowlands for the Nottingham International Children’s Festival in June. We have also continued to work with The Mighty Creatives, most recently working with the staff and residents at a children’s home to redesign and rebuild their living space. Soon we hope to be able to report on some interesting discussions with Qubo Gas. Please watch this space…
