Nominate your favorite teacher!

This spring, The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will recognize outstanding teachers by presenting the Zebulon Pearce Distinguished Teaching Award, the Outstanding Lecturer Award and the Outstanding Instructor Award. Current students within The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are invited to submit nominations.

If you would like to nominate someone, please go to https://clas-forms.asu.edu/clas/nominate-outstanding-instructor to complete a short nomination form. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m., Friday, January 24, 2020.
 
The recipients will be recognized at The College’s Convocation Ceremony in May 2020.

You're Invited: Census Matters to Arizona

The 2020 decennial census is just around the corner! The once-a-decade population count affects our representation in government, determines how much funding our communities receives and provides data that drives policies that affect our daily lives.

ASU Knowledge Exchange for Resilience, School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning, and Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication along with the US Census Bureau are hosting a Census Matters to Arizona event to discuss the importance of the census and how it affects our daily lives.

Participants will hear directly from Deirdre Dalpiaz Bishop, Chief of the Geography Division of the US Census Bureau, as well as panel discussions focused on how different industries depend on census data to do their work, including the media, policymakers and community organizations.

Borderlands Produce Rescue and Pitchfork Pantry

Did you know that there are resources on campus to ensure students have access to affordable fresh produce and a free pantry for those experiencing food insecurity?

Borderlands Produce Rescue: Fresh produce is brought to campus and sold in bulk for just $12 for up to 70lbs of produce for you, your family and to share with others. This event takes place on the third Saturday of the month from November to May. The next event will be taking place on Dec. 21. Pitchfork Pantry: This ASU sponsored food pantry is operated on the Tempe and Downtown campuses and is open to all students with an ASU ID. The Downtown Pitchfork Pantry is located at 118 E. Taylor St and is open Tuesday (3-6 p.m.), Wednesday (2-5 p.m.) and Friday (8 a.m.-12 p.m.). The Tempe Pitchfork Pantry is located at 1480 S. Rural Rd and is open on Wednesday (11 a.m.-2 p.m.) and Thursday (2-5 p.m.).

Phoenix Metro Friends of Transit Student Contest
Local nonprofit Friends of Transit is challenging undergraduate and graduate students to help increase public transit ridership with changed behaviors. Chosen competitors will present at 18th Annual Friends of Transit Conference on Feb 7, and top 3 teams will win cash prizes ($2000 - $500).  Submit proposals by Jan 17, 2020. More info
(Spring 2020) Undergraduate Research Fellows Program, School for the Future of Innovation in Society – ASU Tempe
This program is designed to give undergraduate students across ASU a chance to develop research and critical thinking skills by contributing to a research project. Research topics include sustainable urban food futures, access to urban parks, oil and gas pipeline activism, and more. Time commitment 5-7 hrs/week; may earn $1200 stipend or 2 hrs research credit. Water Index Research Aide, Kyl Center for Water Policy, ASU Downtown Phoenix
The student hired for this position will participate in a project to create a Water Index whose goal is to help the public assess how well Arizona’s communities are planning for and managing water supplies.  Primary responsibilities will include data collection and analysis, interface with municipal water resource professionals, and assisting with development of a plan to roll out the new index.  $15/hr. (Summer 2020) Undergraduate Research: Interdisciplinary Geospatial Approaches to Watershed Science – University of Iowa
Students participating in this 10-week program will engage in research focused on the sustainable provision of clean water and food in a Midwest agricultural watershed. Students will use team-based approaches to build on this ongoing research to examine issues critical to societies across the nation. Benefits: $6000 stipend, housing, travel, meal allowance, opportunity present your research. Apply by 2/20/2020. More info
