"The students are the ones who will lead our country in the future so it’s very important to give them a proper education," stated Nehemie, a 2nd grade teacher in Morency.  (photo, above right) Unlike many teachers in Haiti, she has had access to formal training in the field. In addition to teaching, she is currently studying for her master's degree in Education Sciences.

After her last Hope for Haiti Teacher Training, Nehemie told us about her experience:

“I have been teaching for six years. Access to continuing education through teacher training opportunities from Hope for Haiti helps us in our daily work by teaching us to put the students at the center of all of our activities. Providing that focus helps the students to understand faster, the teachers are more productive, and the students perform better."

"When Hurricane Matthew destroyed our school, my thoughts turned to my students as I wondered if they could adapt to all of the changes in the community. I was worried that they might not be able to learn properly because everyone was focused on the immediate needs of food and housing after the storm destroyed most of the houses and gardens in the community. It was a terrible time. Then Hope for Haiti came in and restored hope in our community by offering us food and medical attention. People received metal sheets to repair their homes and the school was repaired. Having that help at such an important time encouraged us so we were able to pick up the pieces and move forward with our lives."

"Most of all, I want to thank all of Hope for Haiti’s donors for what they have done for Morency, and invite them to come to visit to see how beautiful the place is and how much we care about our children’s future. The training sessions help teachers contribute to the overall performance of the education system in the country. The students are the ones who will lead our country in the future so it’s very important to give them a proper education.”
