Dec 2019 A Decade of FIREWELL
The course of scientific research never did run smooth. The 2010s was a bumpy road filled with successes and setbacks for the FIREWELL team. But we persisted and made it to the other side because of the support of our amazing firefighter collaborators!
In the early 2010s, FIREWELL was a small local collaboration conducting unfunded studies. Over the last few years, our team has expanded to a national team of firefighters, firefighter organizations, and researchers that represent diversity in types of fire services, genders, and provinces. Achieving such collaboration across occupational stakeholders is rarely accomplished and have been critical to our success in building bigger, more well-funded studies on firefighter health. We worked hard this decade and we couldn’t be more proud of our productive applied program of research which has resulted in publications, sustained funding, and ongoing knowledge translation.
FIREWELL is a work in progress…we continue to evolve and learn. We welcome suggestions or ideas for research topics that will help improve the health and wellbeing of firefighters in the new decade. Thank you for your support of our work. We look forward to continuing our collaborations and can’t wait to see what the next 10 years hold for us. All the best for a joyful and safe holiday season!
