AMA Files Lawsuit to Keep Live-Saving Information from Women
|
|
|
The American Medical Association—the largest association of physicians in the United States—bills itself as the “organized voice of medicine.” Yet it is also seeking to censor life-saving medical information by challenging a North Dakota law.
In 2019, the state of North Dakota passed an informed consent requirement to ensure that women considering abortion are fully informed that the chemical abortion process may be reversible if treated quickly after the first pill is taken. North Dakota’s existing informed consent law also includes a disclosure informing women that abortion terminates the life of a “separate, unique, living human being.”
The AMA is suing to strike down these informed consent requirements, and withhold from women key information about fetal development and pregnancy options prior to an abortion. But life advocates are intervening in the lawsuit because every women deserves to have all the information she needs to make the healthiest choice for everyone involved in her pregnancy.

The Daily Caller: Photographers Shouldn’t Be Forced To Violate Their Religious Beliefs To Stay In Business

Most Americans would say they agree that everyone should have free speech, but do they actually believe it? ADF Senior Counsel Kate Anderson writes at The Daily Caller that few Americans are actually brave enough to stand up for the speech rights of everyone. But, there are exceptions, Anderson says, like Kentucky photographer Chelsey Nelson. Chelsey has a passion for wedding photography, and her Christian beliefs help inform how she captures each couple’s special day. But a Louisville ordinance compels her to use her speech in ways that violate her conscience. Rather than let herself be bullied by the government, Chelsey has challenged the law. Anderson writes that Chelsey is not just fighting for her rights; she's fighting for the speech rights of all Americans by demanding equal protection for all speech, not just ideas that are popular.

A New York high school has repeatedly rejected a student's requests to start a Christian club, saying her club is not "generic" enough. Daniela Barca tells Fox News that she sometimes feels like the only Christian at her school, so she wants to create a gathering place for other students who might feel the same way. After being told the request was "lost," the school principal rejected her idea by claiming it violates the Equal Access Act of 1984 and said her club cannot be limited to "the Christian faith." Barca's attorney tells Fox News that the school has engaged in "purposeful, intentional religious discrimination" and that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that religious clubs must be granted the same access as other noncurricular clubs.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled that a Texas prison does not have to provide an inmate with "gender reassignment surgery," and the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review the case, leaving the lower court’s decision in place. The prisoner, a convicted murderer, claimed that not being provided the removal of otherwise healthy organs amounts to "cruel and unusual punishment." But Fifth Circuit Judge James Ho disagreed, noting that "sex reassignment surgery is a matter of significant disagreement within the medical community." Judge Ho also commented that no other prisons have provided such a surgery.

Can the U.S. shift to where abortion becomes "unthinkable?" That's what the pro-life March for Life hopes to achieve, and one step in the process is supporting the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. March for Life President Jeanne Mancini says the organization will work to increase public awareness of the oft-proposed and rejected bill, which they hope will be introduced again in the next congressional session. March for Life's Vice President of Government Affairs Tom McClusky tells The Daily Signal that the proposed law isn't even about abortion; it's about saving a baby who was born alive after an attempted abortion. Protecting such children should not be a controversial issue.
