Hi, I'm Amy, and I write this Well Check as a source of information and encouragement for anyone who'd like to receive it. Did a friend share this with you? If so, I invite you to subscribe here.
you don't have to wait
So Friend, in less than 3 weeks, we'll enter a new year. (There's some debate over whether we're entering a new decade or the last year of the current one, but we're not going to argue that here.)

On January 1, many of us will make new year's resolutions, set goals, or at least think about something we might want to do different in the year ahead.

But why wait three weeks? You can start to change your habits today.

In fact, if you start trying to build new habits on an arbitrary date such as Jan. 1, rather than when you're ready to change, you may set yourself up for failure by being less motivated later.

Want to get more exercise in 2020? How could you fit in a short walk today? Want to eat more nutritious foods next year? What could you change on your plate at one meal today?

Taking action today will give you momentum going into the new year, and when Jan. 1 rolls around, you even may be inspired to add something else.

To help get you started, consider the following questions, perhaps even writing your answers down in a journal:
  • How do I want to feel when I wake up January 1? What do I want my thoughts and attitudes to be? What about myself do I want to be celebrating?
  • If I were to take as good care of myself in 2020 as I do the person I love the most, what actions would I need to take for me?
  • What one habit - not a whole overhaul of my life, but one habit - can I work on starting today?  What is a small first step I can take?
Today can be different from yesterday, and tomorrow can be different from today, with small, intentional efforts.

Cheering you on in 2019 and beyond!

With grace and space for a healthier you,
amy
