“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11
As Mary and I work to wrap up our end of year ministry activities and prepare to celebrate one more Christmas in Brazil, I feel compelled to stop for a moment and reflect on all the ways God has been good to us. He has given us an amazing journey to join Him on. He has given us a beautiful family and incredible friends to share our journey with us. He has given us strength and courage to endure the difficult times and the proper measure of joy and humility to celebrate the good times. He has adopted us, redeemed us, sanctified us and given us a new life and a new purpose. He has given us the gift of relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ, the greatest gift of all. Through our relationship with Him we are taught how to be in true relationship with others. So as Mary and I anxiously await the arrivals of our daughters Shelby, Gennifer and Genn’s husband Keenen to enjoy this special holiday time together, it’s OK that it isn’t cold outside. It’s OK that the streets in Recife aren’t lined with Christmas decorations. It’s OK that not everyone is talking about football (maybe soccer). We will celebrate the joy of being together for Christmas. We will celebrate the joy of family. We will celebrate the birth of a Savior who also happens to be a friend. How amazing is that?
