Past, Present, and Future

A lot has changed at BioInteractive this year: we have a newly relaunched website, a new Ambassador Academy, and, of course, new resources. But what hasn’t changed is our commitment to inspire students and empower educators through high-quality resources and professional development opportunities. So we wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you for spending this year with us and for your commitment to science education!

Happy Holidays from the HHMI BioInteractive Team!

Paper DNA model

A Better Model

Help your students understand the connection between structure and function with this new DNA modeling activity. Students build paper models of DNA and use them to explore and describe key structural features of the molecule. Written and video instructions describe each step of the model-building process to help guide students’ construction of DNA, including understanding the structure of bonds, base pairs, and the antiparallel nature of the double helix.

Tattoo ink particles in skin tissue

Tattoo Removal?

Why doesn’t tattoo ink wash off? In this new Phenomenal Image activity, explore an image of tattoo ink particles inside cells, which serves as a phenomenon for learning about the structure and color of human skin.

A Good Pedigree

Looking for a pedigree activity to accompany students’ exploration of genetic medicine? Check out our new activity that asks students to examine pedigrees to characterize the inheritance of Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA), an inherited form of blindness.

Educator Voices

If you’re looking for new ways to implement BioInteractive resources, hear how experienced science educators are using our resources with their students as part of our Educator Voices feature. We’ve added more than 15 articles and videos to this collection this year, so spend some time this holiday season catching up on implementation ideas, lesson sequences, resource modifications, and more.

Join the Community

We’re looking for passionate life and environmental science educators for our Ambassador Academy, a three-year developmental pathway focused on building professional learning leadership capacity. Submit your intent to apply by January 6. Details and eligibility requirements can be found here.

Educator Spotlight

Best Practices

BioInteractive creates a community for educators where we can all talk about best practices. Educators develop the resources in teams, so you have multiple perspectives. BioInteractive delivers the resources and trains people on how to use them. So what you get is this sharing of the minds, of perspectives, at every level. —Rebecca Orr (Collin College, TX)
