We’re loving this corner of the gallery right now;
the colours are SO gorgeous!

we’ve got something for all tastes and pocket sizes.

By purchasing from us you’re not only supporting a small, independent gallery, but you’re also supporting the individual artists and makers and allowing their creativity to be shared and enjoyed. Every purchase is appreciated and it all has a positive knock-on effect.
We had a trip down to Mersea Island in Essex on Monday to visit ceramicist Anne-Marie Jacobs in her studio.

It’s in a fantastic location and easy to see how her view directly onto the marshland is the inspiration for her ceramics.
Since Anne-Marie's recent feature on BBC’s Countryfile programme (watch it here), her profile has soared and her work has proved even more popular... not that that comes as any surprise to us; they’re absolutely stunning, exceptional quality, and we LOVE them!
Anne-Marie’s work is inspired by her own aerial photographs of the extraordinary wilderness around her. The marshland, with the habitats it offers and the biodiversity it encourages, is under threat. Her response to these concerns could be called ‘Pot Propaganda’.
Her sculptural ceramics communicate an experience of the landscape, evoking a bodily relationship to it. The work aims to relate a sense of risk as well as confidence; a threat of imbalance as well as elegant order; fragility as well as strength. The slip cast forms suggest controlled repetition and the glazes offer wild and serendipitous colours and textures formed in the kiln. This equilibrium is what she celebrates about the landscape and what she is anxious to encourage the viewer to want to conserve for its future.
We've also recently welcomed a new artist, Alfie Carpenter.

Alfie creates as a form of therapy, in particular the idea of collage which, for him, is all about bringing a variety of things together to make something new and to develop understanding.
Whether the components are shapes, colours and textures, or pitches, words and voices, he is fascinated by assembling them in different and diverse ways in order to give life to a particular landscape, vision, idea or emotion.
Born in 1989 and raised in rural Suffolk, Alfie grew up juggling two of his first loves: music and art. At 19, he moved to Leeds, West Yorkshire to complete a music degree at Leeds College of Music, specialising in singing and composition. Now based back in Suffolk, his focus is on creating mixed media landscape art with a combination of plein air and studio work.
As always, you're very welcome to visit the gallery;
there's nothing quite like seeing art 'in the flesh'.
