JANUARY 23
.  The Cowichan Watershed Board’s next Speaker Series event is a free public lecture entitled We Need to Talk, hosted by Courtenay City Councillor Will Cole-Hamilton. This event takes place at Vancouver Island University in Duncan, 7 to 8:30 pm. Find out more on their Facebook event page.

APRIL 22-24, 2020.  Registration is now open for the 3rd Annual Vancouver Island Symposium: Water Stewardship in a Changing Climate. Presented by the Comox Valley Conservation Partnership, The Partnership for Water Sustainability in British Columbia, The Cumberland Community Forest Society, and the Nanaimo & Area Land Trust. EDUCATION

JANUARY 18Greenways Land Trust hosts a workshop: Planning Your Year Round Garden. Topics will include seed catalogs, planting calendars, seed starting, crop rotation and more. This workshop will show you how good garden design and soil care; planting and harvesting schedules; crop rotation; and working with the right varieties for the season will improve your yield, reduce your labour, and increase the resilience of your crops for every month of the year. The cost is $20 and registration is required. More info on their Facebook event page.

JANUARY 25 & 26Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary has two special events this month: Forest Therapy Walk on January 25, and Winter Wildlife on January 26. In March the Sanctuary presents its Mindfulness in Nature course (six sessions plus silent retreat). All info and registration on their website.

JANUARYSwan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary has a number of children’s educational programs throughout the year including Biology Buddies (4-6 years), Preschool Programs (at Swan Lake or at your Preschool), Home School Science (7-10 years), Junior Naturalists (11-14 years), Big & Little (3-5 years), and Les Petits Explorateurs (French immersion, 5-7 years). They also offer School and Adult programs. Check out the EDUCATION tab on their website.

FEBRUARY & MARCH.  The ṮEṮÁĆES Climate Action Project will develop and deliver 3 five-day (30 hour) intensive educational programs that combine current climate science with Traditional Knowledge of the W̱ SÁNEĆ people to inform and support decision-making on land use and climate action at both the local and regional levels. Registration is now open, with the deadline for the first course on January 24. For more information, visit their website.

FUNDING


Applications are now being accepted for the Nature Trust of British Columbia's Brink/McLean Grassland Conservation Fund which aims to promote research, habitat restoration and other stewardship activities that will assist in the management of the land, plants and animals of BC’s native grasslands. The application deadline for 2020 is February 14. Find all the information in this PDF file link.

The Law Foundation of British Columbia 2020 Project Funding is now accepting applications.Visit this link for more information and how to apply. Applications are due by noon on Friday March 2, 2020.

Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation Enhancement & Restoration offers grants for a variety of conservation projects. Click here for the grant overview and information about the latest application deadlines.

Tree Canada offers various grants throughout the year to community groups, schools and individuals to aid their mission to plant and nurture trees in Canadian communities for the benefit of all. Find their list of grants here.
