If you found that you have extra blue orchard mason bee cocoons, we will happily take them and find new homes for them. This year we will be a bit short on cocoons, but have had a couple of large donations that are helping us get closer to our goal.
Most home yards need about 50 cocoons. This amount would easily pollinate flower gardens with plants blooming from February through June. If you have just a few fruit trees and blueberries you might want 100 cocoons. With a small orchard, you would likely have more than one house out with 50 cocoons at each site.
Our main goal is to add more of these native bees to more habitats. We will use your donations at some of our “super-sites” where we get most of our cocoons. Our “super-sites” have lots of early blooming native plants and trees (fruit and berries). We could use a cherry or apple tree SS in the Linn/Benton area. Having other pollinating plants nearby is also a criterion. Let us know if you might want to visit with Rich about “super-sites." E-mail Rich Little
With the holidays, we are all fairly busy, so send Ranee an e-mail to make arrangements for pick up. We do give some tubes and liners or just liners in exchange for the extra cocoons. Ranee is available to pick up between Dec 19th and Dec 23rd. If you need an earlier pick-up, she will find someone to meet up with you. Email Ranee
Let’s keep adding more native blue orchard mason bees to more yards!
