December 2019

The Christmas season gives us a wonderful opportunity to remind children that there is little point in Jesus having come into the world unless each of us welcomes Him into our hearts - the real message of Christmas is that we are invited to give birth to Jesus within.
You might ask the children to imagine, like 12-year old  Alex does: “When I hear the chimes in meditation, I imagine Jesus is ringing my doorbell. I answer him and welcome him into my heart.’
The song 'Love Make Your Way' from the CD 'Meditation with Children: Songs & Reflections' would be very suitable this month. The CD and Songbook are free to all schools in the project. Click the nativity image to hear the song and see the lyrics below.
September's Newsletter shows how to claim your free CD & Songbook
Love, Make Your Way

There is a Love rooted deep in us.
It wants to grow and grow and grow.
All it needs is for our light to shine,
And when tears come to let them flow.
Oh Love, Oh Love grow inside of us
Oh Love make your way
Oh Love, show the world
That it bears your Holy name
I say Yes in the silence,

December is a very busy month in schools and as a consequence you may be tempted to skip meditation in order to get everything done. But that would be a mistake. The busier you are, the more you need meditation to ensure that all your busyness is guided by your heart and not just your head.
We love to get feedback on how the practice is going in your school. One or two sentences will do! Click here to send. Thank you!

Jason (12) described one of the fruits of meditation by saying ‘Meditation helps me to open my heart’ He went on 'It’s like your mind and your heart and all the parts of your body are telling you that what you are dreaming is what they want you to be ... they encourage you to find out who you really are. Not the person you pretend to be but the person that you really are.'

The Christmas Tree image to the right draws together the fruits of meditation experienced by children.
These fruits are ultimately spiritual fruits and go deeper than the practical benefits of reduced anxiety and greater calm.
The diagram can be downloaded and printed as a poster for your classroom. Click here to download the A3 poster and here to get the smaller A4 poster.
Displaying the poster will give you an opportunity to explore with the children their personal experience of the fruits. You might ask them which fruit from the tree captures best what they have experienced for themselves.
