The JagWire

December 9, 2019

From the Principal

Greetings families!

Thank you, gracious families, for your patience and sense of humor last week as we sorted out our misplaced key problem. What was lost was found, and all was well the very next day.

Looking at my weather app for this week, there is a lot of precipitation coming our way. So far, it looks like it is rain, rain and more rain and I very much hope it stays that way. But, we all know that weather patterns are unpredictable this time of year. A snow day or delay is looking highly unlikely in our immediate future, but here are the many ways the district will notify us in case of weather-related disruptions:

School Messenger: You can get text alerts and auto-dialer calls on your cell phone with important news and updates. Text “Yes” or “Y” to 68453.

Website: The PPS website, www.pps.net, will have immediate updates. Look for a yellow bar across the top of the home page when there is an urgent situation or weather-related closures.

Twitter: We put out urgent communications on this social media platform. Simply follow @PPSConnect to get updates.

Facebook: We also put urgent communications on Facebook. “Like” and “Follow” the PPS Facebook page to get posts into your timeline.

Phone calls: Auto-dialer calls go to the primary numbers on the student registration form in all supported languages. Remember to update contact information with your school if your phone number changes.

And I am a little more excited for indoor recess now that Mr. Maddocks and the shop classes are making us some cornhole games for the small gym (giant thank you!). If you are a cornhole master, or just want to toss a few games with the kiddos, we are ALWAYS looking for extra hands and eyes for lunch and recess. I promise you, it’s a giant jolt of energy being around that many kiddos during their down time, and it is as simple as updating your PPS volunteer background check, https://www.pps.net/volunteer.

Have a great week!

Jackson Students to Perform in "The Nutcracker"

Seventh grade Jackson students Sadie Hyde, Charlotte Lewis, Liam Calverley and Sylvie Heffron will be preforming in the Westside Dance Academy's production of The Nutcracker and their Holiday Showcase on Sunday, December 15, at Wilson High School. There are two shows, one at 12:00 pm and the other at 4:00 pm. Tickets are $20 for general admission and can be purchased either at the Westside Academy office or at the Wilson HS door on the day of the show.

Each show will feature the Westside Performing Company and Westside Troupe dancers performing excerpts from The Nutcracker Suite, followed by the Holiday Showcase including several of the performing Dance Troop and Hip Hop Company's dance numbers (tap, jazz and hip hop). You will be amazed at the talent and professionalism of these school-aged dancers.
