Foresight 2020: How to Avoid Groundhog Day

Every Monday, we share bite-sized treats to kick-start your week.

These are worth your attention this week:

  1. BLOG: This week's blog post Foresight 2020: How to Avoid Groundhog Day will help you to prepare for 2020 by harvesting all the amazing learning that's available to you from 2019 using the power of hindsight. Like Bill Murray in the classic movie Groundhog Day ("Don't drive angry"), we're all destined to live out the same day over and over unless we take the time to celebrate our successes and learn from our failures. With New Year's Resolution season soon to be upon us, this is the perfect time to run your very own personal retrospective.
  2. VIDEO: Building on the theme of continuous improvement, here's a classic TEDx talk from Josh Kaufman on the power of deliberate practice in unlocking your potential: The First 20 Hours - How to Learn Anything. Josh offers us some reassurance that we can all do it, and debunks some popular myths along the way.
  3. BOOK: Our blog this week referenced the amazing idea that a 1% performance improvement every day would lead to a doubling in performance every 70 days (and a 37x improvement in a year!). If you're wondering how that's possible, check out the book "The Power of One Percent Better: Small Gains, Maximum Results" by Thomas Oppong. If you don't have time for the book, the author posted a summary here.
  4. QUOTE:  As you inevitably encounter resistance to your goals, this quote from Karen Lamb might help: “A year from now, you will have wished you’d started today”.
  5. INQUIRY: A year from now, what will you wish you’d started today?
If this email made Monday bite a little less, please consider sharing it using one of the options below. If it didn't, let us know how we can improve it by replying with feedback.
