Thank you to all our employees and volunteers for your dedication and effort in accomplishing the incredible amount of work that is highlighted within the report. Your work truly makes a difference in our clients' lives!

Circle of Care Volunteers Train Seniors on Mobile Technology
Over the past year, Circle of Care volunteers Rayshawn Lewis, Barbara Cheng, and Vuso Moyana have been supporting and training 35 Baycrest clients and their caregivers on how to use a telemedicine mobile app called Akira MD. Akira MD provides 24/7 access to a physician or nurse practitioner. By providing clients and their caregivers with a digital tool like Akira MD, Baycrest aims to reduce or prevent visits to the emergency department and to provide timely access to medical care for early detection of chronic disease progression.

Circle of Care volunteers are also assisting with another exciting tech project at Baycrest that started last month. Volunteers will be providing mobile technology training to clients treated by the Interprofessional Primary Care Team. Clients who do not own a cell phone will be provided with one. Volunteers will teach the clients the basics of smartphone use, including making calls and sending emails, using social media to connect with family and friends, how to download apps, and how to order groceries online. Once clients are comfortable with their phones, they will be given access to an app called My Chart. My Chart allows clients to see their medical records and give permission for healthcare professionals to view their health records, test results, and more.

We need your help with this new project!
We are looking for 1 - 2 volunteers who are technically savvy in the use of a Samsung Galaxy or iPhone. Clients will need between 2-4 visits to learn how to use their phones and the applications on it. If you are interested in this opportunity or know someone who is please call Lisa at 416-635-2860 ext 284 to learn more.
Service with Heart Training
Service with Heart is a great customer service training program. All volunteers are encouraged to attend, if they have not already done so.

Our next training dates for Service with Heart will be:
  • Jan 20 from 6 to 9 pm
  • Jan 23 from 1 to 4 pm

You only need to attend one session to complete the training.
Nisha Chopra
"I would like to think that my contribution, in some small way, will help to make our community a better place to live in," says Circle of Care volunteer Nisha Chopra.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Are you working with a client, caregiver or know someone who is affected with mild to moderate anxiety or depression? Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) may be just right for them.

CBT is a practical short-term type of therapy. It focuses on the here-and-now—on the problems that come up in day-to-day life. CBT helps people make sense of what is happening around them and how these perceptions affect the way they feel. CBT also teaches coping skills that clients can use for the rest of their lives.

Clients can register for the program by call our intake department at 416-635-2860 or booking an appointment with an Intake Specialist online at https://www.circleofcare.com/cbt/

Nutritional Supplements for KMOW Clients
We know it can sometimes be difficult to eat the way we should, especially during the winter months when dealing with illness or bad weather. In recognition of this, Circle of Care will include a small supply of nutritional drinks with upcoming meal deliveries over the coming months. The product – certified Kosher dairy under the Orthodox Union (OU-D)* – does not require refrigeration and is ideal for a light meal or snack. This special delivery of nutritional drinks will be offered at no additional cost to clients.

A special thank you to all our KMOW volunteers who will be delivering the supplements along with the regular meal deliveries to our clients.
New Trial Program Launched for Meals on Wheels
In our ongoing commitment to accommodate client requests and improve the client experience, Circle of Care is pleased to be launching a trial with a new food provider. Based on feedback from existing and potential clients, there is significant interest in providing a menu with more variety, including non-kosher options.

Beginning January 20, 2020, a small group of our existing clients have been asked and have chosen to receive meals prepared by Aroma’s World Kitchen (located in the Langstaff and Dufferin area). The 15-20 clients participating in the trial program will reside near the Steeles/Bathurst area to alleviate some of the volumes of meals at Baycrest.

Aromas World Kitchen has an excellent reputation for providing nutritious high-quality meals that meet the needs of our senior population; however, it is not a kosher food provider. Please note that Kosher meals will continue to be offered, and our partnership with Baycrest and Sepha Foods remains unchanged.

If the location of Aroma’s World Kitchen is convenient for you and you would like to take part during this trial period, please let us know.  For regular KMOW volunteers you can speak with Inna directly. Other volunteers can call the Volunteer Department  416-635-2860 ext. 284 to make arrangements for you to begin deliveries.
