Thank you for your interest in the UCSB Teacher Education Program. We know that one of the most important considerations of your graduate education is how you can fund it. In this email, we hope to simplify the financial support opportunities that are available to you, should you attend UCSB TEP.

 

The 2020-21 Application Deadline is January 31, 2020.

Financial Assistance Options

For Special Education Applicants:
Local Solutions Grant: 
The Santa Barbara County Education Office awards a reimbursement (up to $20,000) of debt incurred while obtaining a credential to Special Education teachers. More information here.

How to Apply: 
TEP will send out an application at the end of your credential year.

For Math and Science Applicants:
Noyce Scholarships: 
UCSB teacher candidates pursuing a credential in mathematics or science can apply for a STELLER Noyce Teacher Scholar award of up to $14,500. UCSB teacher candidates pursuing a credential in science can apply for a COASTAL Noyce Teacher Scholar award of up to $15,000.

How to Apply: 
Complete the Noyce scholarship application. (Coming soon)

For Local District Employees:
Classified Credentialing Grant Program: 
The Santa Barbara County Education Office provides funding of up to $4,000 per year to current Santa Barbara County classified employees who intend to pursue their Multiple Subject, Single Subject, or Education Specialist credential. 

How to Apply: 
Submit the grant application directly to the Santa Barbara County Education Office.

For All Applicants:
CalGrant Extension: 
If you received a Cal Grant A or B award within 15 months of Fall quarter enrollment to the Teacher Education Program, you are eligible to apply for an additional year of Cal Grant eligibility. Covers Fall/Winter/Spring tuition. 

How to Apply: 
Submit the G-44 form directly to the California Student Aid Commission.

TEACH Grant: 
Receive up to $4,000 in federal grant aid. To be eligible, you must commit to teach in a high-need field and a low-income area upon completing your credential.

How to Apply: 
Meet the eligibility requirements and sign the TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve.

Program Block Grants: 
Block grants are need-based and typically range from $1,500-$6,000. Block grants are administered by the Teacher Education Program.

How to Apply:
Complete the Financial Aid Statement in the “Personal Achievements/Contributions” section of the eApp. 

Privately Funded Scholarships:
Generous donors provide support for Teacher Education Program students through a variety of privately funded scholarships. Scholarships vary in amount from $500-$5,000. 

How to Apply:
An application will be sent to all TEP students at the beginning of Fall quarter. 

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan:
A federal loan of up to $20,500 to cover any educational costs. Administered by the UCSB Financial Aid Office.

How to Apply:
Complete the FAFSA.

Graduate Plus Loan:
A federal loan to cover any educational costs (no limit). Administered by the UCSB Financial Aid Office.

How to Apply:
Complete the FAFSA.

For Dream Scholars:

Dream scholars enrolled in UCSB’s Teacher Education Program will be required to complete a California Dream Act Application. This allows dream scholars to pay the resident fees at public colleges and universities, apply for and receive private scholarships funded through public universities, state-administered financial aid, university grants, community college fee waivers, and Cal Grants. 

Application Fee Waiver

If you would like to apply to waive the application fee, you will need to submit your fee waiver request through the eApp at least two weeks before our Teacher Education Program application deadline. That means the request is due January 17, 2020. Please visit this link for more information on eligibility and how to apply. 

You are not required to submit your TEP application until the application deadline, January 31, 2020.
