e-List #31:
The Artist's Books of Edward Ruscha

We're pleased to present a collection of books by Edward Ruscha. Hailing from a background in commercial art, Ruscha is associated with the pop art movement, and his work, so heavily rooted in Los Angeles, is inseparable from the city itself.

Starting in the early sixties, Ruscha produced a number of small books-- witty little gems with concise and very literal themes: Every Building on the Sunset Strip, Thirtyfour Parking Lots, Babycakes and Their Weights (featuring photographs of one baby and numerous cakes, with weights listed below), and Some Los Angeles Apartments. They have become some of the most avidly collected artist's books of the 20th century.

Highlights of the list include signed first editions of the aforementioned titles, as well as Ruscha's most elusive book, Dutch Details, of which only 200 copies are thought to exist.

All books are subject to prior sale. They can be ordered via email (info@burnsiderarebooks.com) or through our website. Institutions may be billed to suit their needs.

Enjoy,
Rachel & Roger

Text in Dutch and English. Near Fine with title and author name handwritten on spine in ink, light toning, light soiling and light rubbing. Published in conjunction with the Sonsbeek 71 exhibition in The Netherlands, Ruscha took these images only from bridges, presenting them in a panoramic style reminiscent of his Every Building on the Sunset Strip.
