 Machado Messenger

So much transformation is happening at the school at this time. I always find that something happens within students over winter break and they tend to return to school seemingly more mature than when they left just 2 weeks previously. January also brings about the beginning of the 2nd semester for the school year and, while many of the systems and structures in the classroom remains the same, the learning tends to shift into the next chapter for that grade level, and more emphasis is on preparing for the next grade level. Our school building itself will have undergone many changes, with 5 classrooms and the office being moved to new permanent or temporary spaces and the new wing of the building being completed.

My hope is that each person in our community has the time to reflect on the year behind us. To experience some personal growth that will give us the energy and enthusiasm to continue to strive to be our best selves for families, our communities, and our children.

Happy holiday and new year to you and yours!

 12/10 PFC Meeting Minutes

Meeting minutes and presentation slides from the last PFC meeting can be found here. We hope to see you at the next meeting, which will take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2020.

 The Big Move

As the construction is making progress, it’s time to move our office and FIVE classrooms. Starting December 19th (at noon), we can start moving into our new office space, with the classrooms following after school.

We need as much help as possible on December 19th and 20th. If you can help in any way, even for a few hours, please fill out our volunteer form here.

To make this go easier on the staff, we’d like to do a potluck lunch for the teachers on the 19th and 20th. If you can, please sign up to bring an item here.

Thank you! We know this is a busy time of year and the staff really appreciates our community coming out to support them in this exciting, hectic time.

 Kindergarten Service Learning Project

Ms. Martinez holds an annual bake sale for Project Blanket, which distributes sleeping bags to homeless people and migrant workers. As part of this, students discussed giving and caring for others who have less. The bake sale, which took place on Saturday 12/14, was a huge success raising over $1000. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our kindergarten teacher for this great cause.
Ends Thursday 12/19

This is the last week to donate toys for the annual toy drive. Please donate new unwrapped item for children (age 0-17) by Thursday, December 19. Thank you!

Hear Why Donors Are Giving This Holiday Season

Thank you to the 212 AMAZING donors who have given so far to the Annual Giving Campaign!   We’re deeply grateful for the generosity bestowed on HMCRA from our families and the wider community. Friends, relatives, and Castro neighbors have all pitched in to support our school, and some shared why they gave to HMCRA.

“We are very impressed with the strong sense of community, focus on social justice, and commitment to excellence for ALL kids at the school.” —Matt R., Castro neighbor and SFUSD principal

“The HMCRA community demonstrates the best of what one could hope for in nurturing the full development of each student’s potential, and deserves the extra financial support needed to carry out the school’s many worthy endeavors.” —Sandy S., grandparent of a 3rd grader.

Together, we’ve raised $187K so far—83% of our $225K goal! Join our special community of supporters and make a difference at HMCRA this holiday season. Visit harveymilksf.com to make a year-end, tax-deductible gift before the Annual Giving Campaign ends on December 31.
