Dr. David Yang, Vice President, Center for Applied Conflict Transformation United States Institute of Peace. This is his speech at the Ashland Global Peace Conference 9/21/2019.
The United States Institute of Peace (USIP), in Washington D.C., shares a common vision and a common mission with Ashland by building a Culture of Peace drawing upon similarities between the innovative USIP fieldwork and the work of the Ashland Culture of Peace Commission (ACPC). Both emphasize education and ACPC uniquely engages the Ashland Middle School children with the World Peace Flame. Youth are powerful agents of change.
USIP holds up a mirror to Ashland so we can see our local reflection in the global light. The Cultures of Peace inherently are a linked local and global phenomenon. The local informs the global, the global informs the local, in the never-ending virtuous circle of peace. Peace is possible. It takes action and it takes all of us. You are the Flame.
