'Tis the season to be turning...

Hello friends,

Well, Santa has certainly been busy in Co Carlow delivering our roof and windows for our new building. It is now weathertight which is a great relief.

We have a few new items on our online shop including the wonderful new book 'Fluid Forms' about the work of Liam Flynn. Launched this month, it is a glorious book that shows in a series of short essays and stunning photographs, Liam's truly beautiful work.

I have put a new selection of bowls and platters on the online gallery and please take a moment to check out some fine-figured spalted beech and rare Irish walnut. For any last minute gifts, we have gift certificates which can be emailed to you so that you have something for that stocking! Or our downloadable videos (on special offer now), which can be with you seconds after you order.

Our classes for 2020 are filling nicely and, as well as classes with myself, there is lots of interest in our international masterturners, Richard Raffan and Benoît Averly, and in March 2021 Phil Irons will be delivering a 2-day class on Hollow Forms.

Finally, one of our Bond-holders has made their masterclass place available to an emerging maker. If you wish to apply for this training or if you know someone who would be interested in applying for this scholarship, please pass on this information to them (scroll down for more). If you would like to make training available to someone, perhaps you would like to donate a Bond to this 'Friendship Award for Training'.

Liam Flynn Book Launch

We are delighted to be able to offer you this beautiful and inspiring coffee table 128-page publication, celebrating the life and work of wood artist Liam Flynn (1969-2017). This book was produced with love, in memory of Liam. It will introduce his work to a wider audience and will be a valuable resource for craft writers and historians.

New Workshop Update

The workshop is weathertight which is a great relief. It won't be long until the plastering Elves and other trade Elves will be onsite.

There will be other open days where you can pop in without an appointment, if you are not booked on a class or purchasing tools or bowls.

Turning NOW and the 2020 schedule

We continue to have private tuition and group classes in the current workshop. Next one-day beginner classes are on 8th Feb and 7th March.

We have spaces remaining on our 2-day Refresher class in March. This class is suitable for those who have recently acquired a lathe and want to practice and have guidance...OR ...a great refresher class for sharpening or turning techniques, if your skills are a little rusty.

We've been expecting you Mr Bond...

We are very grateful for the support we have received for our Woodturning Bond scheme. Bonds are still available and can be purchased here. All our Bond-holders will have their name on a panel in our new workshop. Here is a small sample of the 'Bond Bricks' for the Bond-holder panel, currently under construction.

A Bond is available until the building is complete, through the online shop or over the phone, and payable by credit card or paypal. Woodturning B onds cost from EU€500 (approx US$565) for a 3-day class, to EU€1,000 (approx US$1,125) for a 5-day class and a limited edition platter and photo. Bond-holders also have first shout on classes in July and August - our first group masterclasses in the new state of the art woodturning workshop. Private tuition next summer is also available on a mutually agreed day. The Woodturning Bond is valid for 10 years

International demonstrators and classes

Bookings are open for October 2020 - we will have Richard Raffan visit the workshop and also Benoît Averly. And in March 2021 we will have a 2-day Hollow Form class with Phil Irons.

If you wish to book a class with Glenn (group of private) on the shoulder of any of these classes, please let us know and we will ensure you get the most turning out of your trip.

An award has been made available by a generous Bond-holder. We are in a position to offer a masterclass to someone who will benefit from this training, to assist their career development as a woodturner.
