Hi <<First Name>>,

This week I’ve got a couple of articles on storytelling, and I’ve now scheduled my first two workshops of 2019, so I’m also giving you some more info on that.
In my newsletter this week:
  • What drives you crazy?
  • Try telling their story..
  • ...And telling MY story
  • Formulate your 20/20 vision - January workshop
Please do read on....

What drives you crazy?

Sometimes I work with clients to uncover their values.

Values are things that matter to you at a core level.
  • They could be qualities - like respect
  • They could be activities - like dance
  • They could be conditions or situations - like family
To uncover values I often ask my clients this question.

What drives you crazy?

Most of us have something that sets us off.

It might be:
  • the way a client behaves
  • a situation you find yourself in
  • a global or local issue
When it happens, chances are you’ve uncovered something that really matters to you, i.e. a value.

"So what?" I hear you ask.

I believe that knowing our values helps us in two ways.

It makes it easier for us to understand our reactions to a variety of situations.

And it makes it easier for us to work towards building a business that is aligned with our values

And that, in turn, will make running your business much more satisfying.

Try telling their story

If you run a small business you probably go networking.

Love it or hate it, networking often involves giving a 60 second ‘pitch' about your business.

If you love it, great.

If you hate it, that may be because you are uncomfortable promoting yourself.

I recently came across a novel way to address this.

Turns out that while we are often really bad at promoting ourselves, we are usually really good at promoting others.

So why not spend some time with a fellow small business owner, getting to understand their business.

Then write their 60 second pitch for them, whilst they do the same for you.

You could even go networking together and deliver each other's 60 second pitch!

...And telling MY story

A while ago I was invited to participate in a podcast series called ‘Inside Kingston’.

This is the brainchild of Amyr Rocha-Lima, a financial planner based, as the name suggests, in Kingston.

Amyr came up with the idea of interviewing local business owners, professionals, entrepreneurs and community leaders based in Kingston Upon Thames.

The goal is to strengthen the local business community.

What impressed me about Amyr was the amount of homework he had done before our session.

This in turn led him to ask really insightful questions.

The result is a half-hour podcast that I’m really proud of.

We talked about my background, my career. my values, and my work - s well as sharing some tips on topics as diverse as networking and good books!

I’d love you to have a listen, and let me know what you think.

Formulate your 20/20 vision - January workshop

I’ve shamelessly pinched some wording for my next goal-setting workshop!

A fellow business owner reminded me that were weren’t just coming to the end of another year, but to the end of a decade.

And she asked what my 2020 vision would be.

Meanwhile, someone who came to my goal-setting workshop in January 2019 asked me when I’d be running the next one as she wanted to save the date.

So here it is!

Formulate your 20/20 vision' is my goal-setting workshop for 2020.

We’ll use a variety of tools to
  • help you identify what’s important for you as we move into the new decade
  • scope out your vision for 2020, and
  • start to identify the actions you need to take to move forward.

This year one of the tools we’ll use is a vision board.

It’s an exercise I do every year for myself - and I think it’s time to do it with you!

Why not get organised for 2020 and book in now!
