Many of you received the race day details email already, but if you haven't, you can read through it below. There has been one change since that first email was sent and that is the ferry departure schedule and we'd also like to explain a part of the course that has proven a bit tricky for some runners in the past.
FERRY SCHEDULE UPDATES
The ferry company's large boat is "in the shop" so they will be helping us out with their two smaller ferries, which means we will need to do multiple runs. The first ferry will depart at 8:00AM, so however many of you that are able to get there early, we'd love to get as many folks as possible on that first run. Then we will have a couple other ferries departing between 8:00 and 8:30AM.
COURSE MAP EXPLANATION (Please read carefully)
This will also be explained during the pre-race announcements but we've found it's helpful if we can give the information multiple times. We've tried multiple formats of signage for this intersection (per runners suggestions) and the one we use now seems to work best (but someone might still get lost, as you do have to pay attention). Unfortunately even the park's trail maps and Google maps do not portray this intersection accurately. We've made a small drawing (below) to zoom in to the intersection that is marked with an X on the regular course map.
FIRST - No matter which distance you're running, this applies to ALL distances. The course is sort of like a figure eight and the tricky intersection is the middle of the 8 where the course crosses itself. The 10K does the course once and the Half Marathon does it twice.
SECOND - The whole course is marked with orange ribbon, EVERYONE (ALL distances) follow the orange ribbon. At one intersection, you will see BOTH ORANGE and GREEN ribbon. EVERYONE (ALL distances), when you see both color ribbons at this intersection FOLLOW THE RIBBON ON YOUR RIGHT. First time through, you TURN RIGHT and follow the ORANGE ribbon. Second time through, when you see the GREEN ribbon on your RIGHT, follow it STRAIGHT down along the fire road. Do NOT turn left to hop back onto the trail where you came up. Eventually you'll start following the orange ribbons again on the rest of the course. Half Marathoners, remember you will see this intersection again on your second lap, so remember to STAY RIGHT!.
THIRD - Do NOT assume the person in front of you knows where they are going. PAY ATTENTION and look to your RIGHT for the ribbons and do not take advice from hikers, they don't necessarily know the course. We have had that happen in the past for some odd reason.
