From Julie
As we come to the end of another exciting school year it’s timely to reflect back over some of the highlights for 2019. Fundamental to Cottage School is the nurturing of each whole child that we have in our care and this is what drives everything that we do here. Highlights for me have been:
- Our students; your children. A constant source of delight, surprise, and so much admiration for the way they go about their learning here in this supportive environment
- Staff cohesion and mutual reciprocal support
- 100% of our students say they get on well with their teachers in social-emotional surveys
- Our teachers, teacher assistants, office staff, relief and all the team are amazing
- It has been so great to see particular students who were having difficulties in particular areas make such huge progress in achieving their social goals - this was most noticeable when families and staff were working really closely together
- Indigenous Culture and Languages Day and Indigenous Book ‘Swap’
- Planning for the new play equipment - it’s going to be fantastic. Construction begins 13 January
- Camps, Environment and Bike Days – always enhances deeper connections.
- Cooked lunch – great food, great cooks, clean-up could improve, advertised term menu, consultation with Student Forum
- Student Forum – so many good contributions
- 2040 film and follow up activities – inspired by Lee
- Kelp regeneration – Help the Kelp art & poetry exhibition and auction - Kath & Tom
- Lindisfarne recycled sculptures - Tom
- Dorothea MacKeller Poetry exhibition, recognition and Eastern Shore Sun article- Jane P and Kate N
- Rosny Library exhibition – inspired by Jane P, set up by Andrea B and Skye
- Reporting – wonderful reports reflecting a deep understanding of children/students
- Knowing and connecting with families so well
- Participation by those who wanted to be involved in the Climate Change rallies
- Oakdale Industries – contribution – billy carts, pet carts, soccer ball constructions by Littlies
- Leavers’ processes – Kath has yet again excelled herself with how the Grade 6 students have celebrated and been recognised for their learning and their time here at the school
- Kath has been our inaugural Leading Teacher and we have learnt so much about orthography from her. I hope you have been able to see a performance of our Orthography Thursday shows. A must see I believe.
There’s probably a lot more that could be said but time now to wish you all a wonderful, adventurous, curious, happy holiday season with friends and family and we look forward to seeing you back here again next year. All the best to our departing Grade 6 students and the leaving families.
