PROGRAM UPDATES

Here at Campus Compact, we want to make sure our members have everything they need for a successful service term!  To that end, we wanted to share some resources we've been working on and ask for your contributions.

Our Member Portal Site has everything you need to know for your term of service, from general program information to first 30 day requirements to reporting.  We have been working on making updates to the site to ensure it is as helpful as possible and answers many common questions.  In particular, check out the recent updates to the Service Requirements and Benefits section, First 30 Days section, and Time Tracking and Monthly Reports section.

Our PD, Trainings, and Events Calendar was created to house professional development and training opportunities you can participate in online or in the community.  Check out the events already listed in the calendar, and help us add events to it! If you learn of any trainings, professional development opportunities or events, please email them to Team Leader Cody McSparren.  Unlike your monthly team calls or monthly professional development calls through us, all items on this calendar are optional.

Our Resource Guide is meant to provide you with access to resources you may need during your term of service.  This spreadsheet includes resources for things like food, mental health, housing, and more.  Accessing available resources in the community is often essential to making that AmeriCorps member living stipend work for you during your term of service.  Check out the resources in the guide and help us add to it!  If you have any resources we can add to the guide, please email them to Team Leader Cody McSparren.

If you participated in the Martin Luther King national day of service, please upload any photos and a story to National Days Of Service

Community Table!

The University of Denver is proud to organize A Community Table, a week-long series of table conversations taking place April 20th-25th, 2020. A Community Table seeks to promote action for the public good by bringing individuals together to deliberate about issues such as healthcare, climate change, education access, and more. Currently, we are seeking AmeriCorps members to volunteer to host table conversations. When you sign up to host A Community Table, you'll join hundreds of other people who know that problems are solved by communities, that communities thrive when we work together, and that community begins with conversation. Registration will open up towards the beginning of the New Year, and we would love to have you involved! For more information, please visit https://grandchallenges.du.edu/events/community-table or contact the AmeriCorps DU site member, Shannon Fischer, at shannon.k.fischer@du.edu.
Monthly Reflection
Each month of service you're required to write to a reflection topic in your monthly report. Topics are based on the month of service you're currently in (your first month, second, etc.) as well as whether you started before or after Aug. 1, 2019. Follow the links below to find your topic for this month. And please reach out to your Team Leader or Program Manager for assistance if you are having trouble with this information

AmeriCorps Week
Full Week, March 8th to 14th ,2020

MEET A NEW MEMBER
Thomas Rosado is a Navy Seabee Veteran from New York, NY who attends Adams State University for Biology/Psychology in Alamosa, Colorado.  He is an avid cyclist and this past summer he rode his bike from Colorado to Missouri for a total of 1100 miles to bring awareness to the prevalence of Veteran's Suicide.  He is working on a project that will better equip veterans on the options and resources available to them concerning their mental health so that they can get the help they need. Say hello to Thomas on the Might Network!
FEBRUARY MEMBER STORY
This month Ethan Au Green a VISTA member at Naropa University was interviewed by the CU Independent while volunteering on Martin Luther King JR Day of Service.

Several community members attending the event did so out of an act of service, which for AmeriCorps member Ethan Au Green is what Martin Luther King Jr. Day is all about.

“I’m older than King was when he was murdered and he was a very inspiring example of what people can do when they come together for social change,” Au Green said. “I think it’s important to continue King’s legacy in the modern day because we still have struggles for social justice, against racism and for protecting the environment.”

Keep up the good work Ethan!
February SERVICE TIP:

Having fun on the cheap

Make your own fun.

Host game nights or potlucks at your house for other AmeriCorps members and friends in your area. Join a book club or start one with coworkers. If you like the outdoors, find parks, beaches, or other destinations you can reach via bike or public transportation. Hiking and spending time outside is one of the most popular activities among Reading Partners’ AmeriCorps members. Host Netflix screening parties, karaoke, or dance parties at home with friends. Read more and borrow books and movies from the library. Befriend others in your AmeriCorps cohort—they likely want to save money too and will help you stay on track.

LET'S HEAR IT FROM YOU
Take our monthly poll to let us know what you think.
