Help Prevent Slip & Fall Accidents - Good Lighting

During the winter months, it is crucial to keep in mind the importance of good lighting in preventing slip and fall accidents. Many employees arrive to work before sun up and leave after sundown, so it is important to maintain good outdoor lighting so that everyone can see icy areas or snow on walkways. It is especially important to make sure all outdoor stairs are well-lit.
Prevention Efforts Are Effective
While the number of slip and fall accidents has declined over the past three years, they still remain the leading cause of workplace injury. Over the last five years, CIRMA members had a total of 9,843 slip and fall accident claims with a severity of $69 million. While the financial cost of the accidents to CIRMA members is high, the personal cost to the injured employee can be greater still, with painful and sometimes permanent or fatal injuries.
Implementing a slip & fall prevention program is an important first step in reducing these accidents. CIRMA has assembled a number of resources to help municipal and school leaders implement best practices in their facilities and train their employees on ways to avoid slip and fall injuries:
