Happy holidays, and all the best of the season!
Squash in town
We are continuing to explore two potential timelines: (1) finding a solution for courts as soon as possible and (2) building towards a sustainable and long-term solution for squash courts.
If you would like any information, or would like to help in any way, send an email to info@kamloopssquash.ca.
(1) the short term solution may include the courts at TRU (as long as the courts exist, they will be a target of interest for the sport), or building courts in any space with adequate height, or both (opening the TRU courts will provide benefit to the students and the larger community but they won’t meet the need for courts in town)
(2) the long-term solution may involve building a facility on public land, for a more sustainable future for the sport.
The City’s Recreation Master Plan was adopted by council at a meeting on December 10 th. Linda Stride presented the Plan to council, and mentioned squash and cricket as two sports lacking facility space in town.
For those who didn’t get a chance to watch the proceedings, the meeting can be found online here: http://kamloops.playfullscreen.com/?mediaid=361.
Linda’s presentation starts at 42:00 minutes and runs through to 1:11:00, and in case you’d like to get directly to the squash part and save the rest for viewing later, that part runs from 57:35 to 58:15 in the video.
