HOW TO RUN A MEETING SO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'VE BEEN TO CHURCH
January 9, 6:30 p.m. in the Anthony Room

Join Rev. Roberta for an interactive workshop about the nature of UU congregational leadership. This is for all current leaders and those thinking about stepping up into leadership. It is a good opportunity for current leaders to invite somebody you think might make a good leader with some training. I will cover the basics of creating an agenda, making sure all voices are equally valued, and incorporating into every meeting, no matter how business-like, elements of caring, fellowship, and UU identity. All are welcome to attend.
GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK
REDUCING PAPER TOWEL USAGE

Did you know that paper is the #1 item going into the landfill? Reducing or eliminating paper towels is one way to make an impact. Start by using smaller sheets of paper towel to get the job done.  Instead of using a paper towel to cover food in the microwave oven, use a lid or another plate. Instead of draining bacon or fried food on a paper towel, drain foods on a rack over a baking sheet, or over newspapers.  Instead of using paper towels to dry your hands when you're not at home, carry a handkerchief or small cloth in your purse or coat pocket; its surprising how fast it will dry out.

Use cloth napkins, dish rags, dish cloths, tea towels, flour sack towels, old newspapers, microfiber cloths, cleaning cloths, and cloth rags for all the jobs that paper towels used to do. The trick is to keep them handy and available, while putting the paper towels away where they are not easily accessible.  Make a big supply of rags from old towels, and old t-shirts. While cleaning, keep clean, folded stacks of rags in the kitchen and bathroom so they are always handy. Consider keeping two bins nearby, one for clean rags and one for soiled rags ready to toss in the washing machine.

Guest at Your Table

The  UUSC campaign for this year has come to a close. Our “guests” are on their way to keep fighting for social justice. If you want to help them, please bring your coin boxes back or write a check to UUCJ with UUSC on the memo line. We will have extra envelopes at the back of the church.

One last note about this organization: In addition to the 80 partners they support around the world, they are also exposing thousands of young adults with immersion trips and training. ThIs UU College of Social Justice is creating a new generation of faith-based justice activists.
