Happy New Year!

Hello folks, and Happy New Year! I meant to get this email out a bit sooner, but I've been out sick for a few days... I admit that I was waiting to see when I'd feel more up to the task. I had wanted to muster up a bit more holiday spirit to share with you all. It's hard when you're sick, isn't it?

The silver lining here is that feeling rotten like this can make us appreciate the times when we've felt great. We are reminded not to take for granted all of the wonderful comforts in our lives.

So even as I'm sniffling and cursing my lungs, I am reminded that we at CWC have a lot to be grateful for, especially when it comes to "health." We dedicate most of our waking hours to supporting the health of animals in our care. This includes emergency care for injured wildlife, nurturing support for our young orphaned patients, and ongoing wellness for our permanent residents. Our larger goals include protecting the health of our local ecosystems and the communities - both human and animal - who call them home. This year, we've had the privilege of supporting the health of more animals than ever before. We've been lucky enough to witness children get outdoors and play the way their parents and grandparents did - no screens, just their imaginations and the wildness of nature. And we've watched in awe as so many people have been captivated by our resident Raptor Ambassadors. I'm incredibly proud of the work our staff and volunteers accomplished this year, and I'm grateful to you for helping make that possible. I think I speak for all of us here when I say that to be part of this community and to play even a small role in the work that we do is one of my life's greatest joys.

So even though I'm feeling significantly less spirited than my usual self, I have to admit that we have it pretty good - and we have you to thank for that.

Have a very Happy New Year - and please forgive any typos from my fevered brain! ;)

P.S. Before I forget - there's still time to make a tax-deductible donation this year. This work is made possible by generous people like you and we're not kidding when we say every bit counts. Thank you again for your amazing support, and thank you for caring about wildlife.

Wildlife Rehabilitation
Recent Patients

There really is no better way to describe the increase in wild patients than to show you a graph. You can visually see exactly what we mean - the number of wild animals in need has dramatically increased through the years. Our current count of this year's patients admitted as of December 26th is 2,269!

An adult female American Kestrel was brought to our center earlier this week after being struck by a vehicle. She sustained a fractured coracoid and scapula, and is also recovering from moderate head trauma. We are providing her with fluid therapy, feeding assistance, and pain/anti-inflammatory medications as she continues to heal in our ICU.

A sub-adult female Red-tailed Hawk was brought to us after she’d gotten into a chicken coop. She became stuck in the coop, and despite thrashing around in a panic, she sustained only superficial injuries and was released after a short stay with us.

Social Fundraising
Giving Tuesday

Our Giving Tuesday campaign was a success thanks to our generous community supporters! With donations through Facebook, Paypal, and mailed checks, we are thrilled to report that we raised the funds needed to upgrade our anesthesia monitoring system.

$3,500 was raised over the course of just a few days - we are looking forward to further improving the medical care we provide for our critical wildlife patients.

Networking &
Strengthening Connections

We cannot thank the team at Wildlife Images Rehabilitation & Education Center enough for hosting our staff last week and providing incredible behind-the-scenes opportunities for us. It was such a treat to meet many of their animal ambassadors and to tour their facilities.

We are grateful to have spent the day with such knowledgeable and passionate people who share our same goals of wildlife rehabilitation & education!
