We wouldn't be reminding you again if this wasn't so important.  Thanks to all of you who have already acted.  Two projects, the Northern Corridor Highway and the Lake Powell Pipeline, have big ramifications both locally here in Southwest Utah and across our nation, to all who think waste of our natural resources and damage to critical habitat should have limits.

  • The Highway is a threat to endangered species here and everywhere in the US.
  • The Pipeline is predicated on an over-allocated Colorado River supporting even more water waste in Utah.

The Bureau of Reclamation is holding 3 informational meetings on the Pipeline, 6-8 PM
          January 7, Kanab Center, 20 N 100 E, Kanab
January 8, Dixie Center, 1835 S Convention Ctr Dr., St. George
          January 9, Valley High, 325 W 11000 S, South Jordan

Please take a few minutes to write a comment to the federal agencies at this beginning stage of the process that will determine the acceptability of these projects.   Comments are due January 6 for the Northern Corridor Highway and January 10 for Lake Powell Pipeline

Go to the NCH and LPP Scoping Comment Webpage for directions to write and submit your comment, or read on for a little more background.

Thanks for your attention during the busy holiday season!

Federal agencies, with the support of our elected officials, have started a rushed approval process during this holiday season for these two long-standing, complex and damaging projects.

The Process has 3 steps: (1) determining the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement, (2) the analysis of the items identified in the scope, and then (3) the final decision (approval or disapproval).  The federal agencies are now in the first step, and as required, they are asking the public to submit “Scoping Comments” to determine what should be considered in the scope of the analyses.

Your comments will increase the chance that the right issues are analyzed.

Historically there is a 90-day process that encourages public input. For these projects, public involvement is being suppressed by only allowing 30 days, with both happening at the same time, over the busy holiday season when we are very distracted.  These projects have gone through other approval attempts that have failed due largely to your efforts.  Let’s keep it up.

For the Northern Corridor Highway

  • The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the US Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) are co-leading the process
  • Comments due by January 6th
  • The BLM is holding a Scoping Meeting on December 17, 4:30-7:30 at the Dixie Center
For the Lake Powell Pipeline
  • The Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) is leading the process
  • Comments due by January 10
  •  The BOR is holding a Scoping Meeting on January 6, 6-8 PM, at the Dixie Center

How to Write and Submit Your Scoping Comment
We have defined a fairly quick and easy process for you to help you write and submit your comments.
Go to the  NCH and LPP Scoping Comment Webpage

Your comments are essential, making all the difference for a complete evaluation of the two projects, their flaws and their alternatives..

We’ll send one reminder per week - your comments are so very important.
