Executive Director Position
SUMMIT Early Learning Inc (SUMMIT), a progressive, private non-profit agency in central Pennsylvania, seeks an executive director to lead the agency. SUMMIT provides quality early childhood education services to children and families in multiple counties, in an area exceeding 1000 square miles. 1600 children are served in 24 locations spanning five counties. through five programs: Head Start, Early Head Start, Child Care, Pre-K Counts, and Healthy Families America. SUMMIT maintains multiple partnerships including Intermediate Units for Early Intervention, Foster Grandparents, School Districts including kindergarten transition and Pre-K Counts, STARS and PA KEYS, local human service agencies including the Health Department, County Assistance Offices, Community Action Agency, and Children and Youth. SUMMIT’s workforce is comprised of 260 passionate employees and the agency headquarters is located in Mifflinburg, PA.
A bachelor’s degree is required (Master’s preferred) in a field of management, education, or social services. The successful candidate must be an experienced leader of at least five years in an organization with increasing responsibilities in fiscal and program management, and with an understanding of child development theories and practices.
The executive director is the organizational leader for all programs and services. Duties encompass all administrative and financial components involved in managing a $13 million dollar multi-program early education organization. Leadership is both internal and external and includes organizational advocacy along with protecting and modeling the SUMMIT philosophy and corporate culture that promotes trust and transparency for all employees, board members, parents of children served, and the community. All responsibilities guide and support quality early care and education services as guided by the agency mission: “building the future through early care and education…one family at a time.”
The successful candidate must have knowledge of principles of management, administration, human development, functions of social service grantee agencies, working knowledge of Head Start or comparable preschool child development programs, and all associated federal, state, and local regulations and the ability to build professional partnerships within the Head Start and Early Care community. Skill in dealing with people, diplomacy, tact, and discretion is required plus exceptional skills in written and oral communication, creativity, ability to solve problems strategically, and demonstrated success in managing multiple projects.
