We're also still accepting add-ons to pledges that members and friends already have made, as three folks did during the last week to help overcome the current shortfall in covering next year's operating expenses.

Either let Church Administrator Virginia Deroy know of your pledge or increased pledge amount during office hours Monday-Thursday  noon-5 pm or Sara May at maybloomer1@gmail.com. If it is a new pledge, please use the button below.

Make Your Pledge

WHAT MAKES YOUR HEART SING?
Thursday, December 19, 6:30 p.m. in the Anthony Room &
Saturday, December 21, 2:00 p.m. at Penny Reid's home

Join Rev. Roberta for an interactive workshop that will help you discover something inside of you that calls you to service and even (gulp) leadership. Together we will dispel some of the stereotypes about leadership and examine the very diverse characteristics that are actually needed in a community of faith like ours. Each participant will explore ways that would allow them to be in service to the congregation and community in the most spiritually satisfying way possible.

CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE AND COOKIE SOCIAL
Tuesday, December 24, 7:00 p.m. in the Santuary & Social Hall

Join us for our annual Christmas Eve service, then come downstairs afterwards for our Cookie Social for treats and fellowship. Bring your Christmas cookies or other holiday treats; savory snacks or fruits and veggies also appreciated!
GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK

We will all be doing a lot of entertaining in the coming weeks. Please consider using only CLOTH NAPKINS as you set your holiday tables. Keep several sets on hand and keep them handy in the kitchen. They are easy to toss in the laundry. Make it a resolution to stop using paper napkins year-round. And guess what? Not only are you helping the environment, you are also saving $$$$!

Special Collection: Arlington Community Services

Founded in 1989, Arlington Community Services has been providing emergency support to individuals and families in need.  UUCJ supports their work year round through our food collections and fresh produce from the Arlington Community Garden. In addition to food assistance, ACS provides monetary assistance for housing, utilities or medical needs when a crisis occurs. It has been our UUCJ tradition at the holidays to contribute toward these much needed funds. Recognizing our neighbors needs and our own blessings at this time of the year, please give generously. Please make checks out to UUCJ with Arlington Community Services in the memo line.

We will be collecting during service December 22 and Christmas Eve.

Ballet Tickets Make Great Christmas Presents!

UUCJ is in possession of 2 donated sets of tickets for Romeo and Juliet. Each set contains two tickets plus a parking pass—all for $50 each. One of these tickets is now selling for $50—so this is a very good deal! The performance takes place at the Times Union Center, Friday, January 10, 8:00 p.m. This ballet comes from Ukraine, and features top Ukrainian artists. It is amazing! All proceeds from the sale go to UUCJ and would help contribute to the budget shortfall we currently have. Contact Darlene Larsen for more info: fundraising@uucj.org

Stocking Stuffers — UUCJ Pens

The sale of each pen supports and advertises UUCJ.

The Fund Raising Team has two types of imprinted pens for sale; both have a  stylus on the opposite end: A royal blue one that lights up our info ($3) and an attractive navy one with silver trimming ($2). Combined with stationery they make great gifts that will keep our church’s name in the limelight, literally. The pens alone are especially appropriate for future new members.

If you interested in purchasing pens see Cyd Reider, Reider, Jeanne Huebner, Arlene Anderson, Betsy Duerling, Janine Leland, Teri Mitchell, or Darlene Larsen. Penny Reid has pens for our Fernandina members. All proceeds from the pens go to UUCJ. Such a winning idea for all — we hope you will consider it!

Hooray! 3,014 pounds in Arlington Community Services Contributions!

Thanks to you for continuing your Sunday contributions and to the Arlington Community Garden for their donations to Arlington Community Services.  UUCJ has matched its previous high of 3,000 pounds achieved in 2017.  We have three more opportunities to donate food toward ACS: the next two Sundays and Christmas Eve. Remember, on Christmas Eve we will be taking groceries, but our goal will be to raise $1,000 in cash to support the ACS efforts to help with utility and rent shortfalls.

Merry Christmas from the ACS Support and Transport Group: Linda Leon who volunteers at ACS, Barbara who is my backup, Marianna Van Hyning, our previous coordinator, and Carlos Fraticelli.
