Leading the attack against asthma in 2019

As 2019 draws to a close we're reflecting on what has been a busy year of growth and change for the National Asthma Council Australia and taking this opportunity to wish you a happy festive season and New Year.

From launching the eighth edition of the national asthma treatment guidelines - the Australian Asthma Handbook, to advancing our rethinking written asthma action plan project, we've continued setting the standard for asthma care.

Thank you to everyone who helped us promote good asthma care this year. We look forward to working together to improve asthma outcomes in 2020 and beyond.

Resources

In March we published a major update to the Australian Asthma Handbook, our flagship publication and the national treatment guidelines for asthma management.

We developed evidence-based resources for health professionals including the Allergic Rhinitis Pad and the Severe Asthma Checklist.

Education

Through our Asthma Best-Practice education initiative, we delivered free asthma and respiratory management workshops to health professionals around Australia.

Thank you to our network of expert presenters who helped us disseminate best-practice asthma management at 81 workshops.

Awareness

Key awareness campaigns included World Asthma Day, National Asthma Week and to highlight risks such as statistics on asthma-related deaths.

Through Sensitive Choice, we've adopted an expanded consumer education focus to put our world-leading advice in easy reach, while empowering people to identify asthma and allergy-aware products and services.

Projects

Outcomes from our multi-phase project to Rethink Written Asthma Action Plans this year included a series of interactive online forums and the release of the project report.

The Pharmacy Trial Program - Allergic Rhinitis Control project is underway, with the National Asthma Council acting as the Expert Advisory Group secretariat.

Impact

In November we celebrated our 30th anniversary and significant achievements in three decades of leading the attack against asthma.

It marked the beginning of a new chapter for the organisation, as we redefined our focus and refreshed our brand to ensure we remain at the forefront of asthma care.
