While you are waiting...

What can you do while you are waiting for a response to a job application, book query, or exciting change in your life? Kids wait for the tooth fairy, Santa Claus, or winter vacation. While they are waiting, we keep them busy with chores, homework, and activities. While you are waiting for that big break, do you anxiously wait in frustration, or do you take positive action?

While waiting to hear a response to my application to one of the Odyssey’s winter classes that allows only 14 students a year, I knew I needed to be busy with other activities. I applied for part time coaching jobs since I love to help people find opportunities and abundance in their lives and work, and I prefer coaching to the marketing work I do in my private practice. I have the requirements for these jobs, but not all of the preferences. It's an opportunity to stretch myself and see what happens. If you are an entrepreneur wanting to stretch yourself or find new opportunities, take a look at my affordable coaching package Find Success as a Creative Entrepreneur,

CHRISTMAS OLD AND NEW

I often find that I am curious like Lucas in, “Vegetable Kids in the Garden. My curiosity draws me to read about things I find interesting like wondering where the Christmas holiday originated.

According to the National Geographic website St. Nicholas was originally a Greek bishop known as a protector of orphans, sailors, and many more. The story goes on to say that in Germany, St. Nicholas transformed into a scary character who rewarded good behavior and threatened the children who misbehaved. It seems that in the Netherlands, tradition held to the kind gift giver and brought him to America.

I hope your holiday brings you friends, family, good food, giving to those who are less fortunate, and making a fun day for the kids. We plan to take our grandkids again this year to meet the superheroes who give in so many ways to traumatized children. I always enjoy seeing my friend, Batman, who started the nonprofit, The League of Heroes Inspired. When Christmas is about giving, it fits with traditions old and new. A TIME FOR GIVING

December is a busy month for many people shopping, decorating, and going to parties. Not everyone experiences such luxuries. There are some people like mail carriers, restaurant workers, and retail clerks who often work extra hours. Some people don’t have the interest or ability to celebrate this time of year. While we are wishing everyone good cheer, we can pay attention and notice when someone is feeling especially sad, lonely or in need of assistance. Whether it is a neighbor who needs help this year or a nonprofit you support, there are so many ways to give from your heart.

The nonprofit we are supporting this month is: I Love to Help.

ILoveToHelp.org is partnering with the Center for Fathers and Families to select a few families who are facing this kind of Christmas, and we are going to change all that this year! We are appealing to people just like you to share whatever you can spare, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 or more, so the chosen families will have their utilities paid, bags of groceries for a fine Christmas meal, and gifts for everyone in the family! See more at: www.ilovetohelp.org.

EASIER TOGETHER

The holiday season is a fun time for events and visiting local retailers. I connected with someone on Alignable.com from the Elk Grove Fine Arts Center. The center is interested in inviting us to an event for a book signing. I was ready to quit Alignable because they send so many emails and you often need to buy premium to connect with someone. But I decided to continue making connections since I made a new friend at the Elk Grove Fine Arts Center. Illustrator, Janet Hignight, and I went to the Elk Grove Fine Arts Center, then went next door to a cute little gift shop. The owner was very friendly, offered to sell my books on consignment and will ask us to come for a book signing in the spring. It’s amazing how one connection can lead to another.
