Fellow League Members and Supporters,
In 2020 we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the League of Women Voters and the ratification of the 19th Amendment. While there is much to celebrate, there is still work to be done, "Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy." Work which is only possible through the continuing dedication of our volunteers and the support of our community.
In 2019 our Voter Services team:
- Pre-registered 256 juniors at Los Altos High School (read more).
- Helped register 522 voters at the July new citizens ceremony, participated in National Voters Registration Day and Foothill College’s Political Awareness Day (read more).
We are partnering with:
- The Registrar of Voters to educate the community about the Voter’s Choice Act (VCA) - the new voting system that we will start using in the March 3rd primary.
- Santa Clara County’s Complete Count campaign to ensure that every resident is counted in the 2020 Census.
Our Housing Committee is advocating in Los Altos and Mountain View to increase affordable housing, and following the 25 new state laws that will impact affordable housing in our area.
In January start looking for us at the Mountain View Farmers’ Market, public events, and meetings of local organizations talking about VCA, Census, elections, and registering voters.
We are gearing up for the March primary and the November general election where we will host candidate forums and “Pros and Cons” sessions with unbiased information about local and state ballot initiatives. As our events will be videotaped, you can watch them later on our updated website.
Please help celebrate our centennial year by volunteering, joining or renewing your membership (Join), or donating (Donate). Your membership and donations are tax deductible and give the League of Women Voters a larger voice at the local, state, and national levels.
Warm regards,
Lisa McLain, President
