12/20/19 – Ballard Multimodal Corridor Construction Update
Crews will not be working from December 23 through January 5. Work will resume Monday, January 6. We will provide the next weekly construction update the week of January 6.
This week, crews placed temporary asphalt along the work zone to expand the walking space for pedestrians, provide a safe path from parking spaces to the sidewalk, and reduce the number of barriers and fencing. Please note that this is not the Burke-Gilman Trail extension, it is merely a temporary path before we can install the final treatments.
On NW Market St, crews installed conduit and wrapped up electrical work this week. Crews also prepared to pave the south side curb.
Crews continued work at the intersections of 24th and 28th avenues NW and NW Market St. This work included electrical installation, backfilling, and patching.
Please note that there are other, private construction projects happening along NW 54th St that will cause additional sidewalk and roadway impacts.
Please take care when traveling through the work zone as lanes may shift.
Businesses are open!

Upcoming work
This schedule is weather-dependent and subject to change.
Ahead of the holiday break, pedestrian walkways along NW Market St will be returned to their normal configuration, including all corners of the intersection at 24th Ave NW and NW Market St. The number of barriers will be reduced throughout the corridor, though some will remain for pedestrian safety.
Beginning as early as Friday, December 20, the westbound turn lane from NW Market St onto 28th Ave NW will be restored.
The current traffic configuration on NW 54th St and NW Locks Pl will remain until spring. The pedestrian detour will remain in place beside the sidewalk area. Walkways will be clearly marked with orange barricades.
Beginning Monday, January 6, crews are scheduled to install additional pole foundations at the intersection of 24th Ave NW and NW Market St.
As early as Monday, January 6, crews will begin installing Metro trolley poles along NW Market St, NW 54th St, and NW Locks Pl. Through traffic will remain open during this work, with minor traffic shifts around work areas.
As work continues along the project corridor and limits space for cyclists on the road, please remember to share the sidewalk and be aware of your surroundings.

Other Nearby Projects
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) Work on NW 54th St
A private developer is working with Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) to install a new utility crossing on NW 54th St between 24th Ave NW and 28th Ave NW. To accommodate this work, NW 54th St will be closed between 26th and 28th avenues NW. One lane will be maintained between 24th and 26th avenues NW, with flaggers alternating traffic as needed. 26th Ave NW will be local access only between NW Market St and NW 54th St. These traffic changes went into effect on Monday, November 25. We expect this work to wrap up this week.
Street Name Change
As of November 4th, the City of Seattle renamed a block of NW 54th St to help reduce confusion for emergency service providers. There were previously two intersections with the same street names: NW 54th St and NW Market St, 1.5 miles apart. Duplicate names create confusion for emergency response dispatchers and can delay response. The new name is "NW Locks Pl" in the location shown below on the image below.
