A BIG THANK YOU
Looking back at 2019, the most encouraging feature of the year was the support which we have received from individuals and organisations. A big thank you must go to the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the players who have granted us £99,000. Thanks should also go to the volunteers who have helped start the restoration work and those involved in the Project activities. We are grateful for the continuing support that we have received from the BBC and the Science Museum Group. We have also received many generous donations from individuals and companies, which has helped us head towards raising our target of £11,000 for match funding. All the people and organisations, who have helped the Project, will be recognised in the final MCR21 display, which will accompany the restored unit.

JANUARY
The Year started with an urgent need to submit our application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund by 19th January, the deadline for the type of grant which we were applying for. To go with the formal application, an eighty two page report had been written which included letters of support from Tony Hall, Director General BBC and
Dr Elizabeth Bruton, Curator of Telecommunications at the Science Museum Group.

MARCH
On 21st March the Heritage Fund let us know that our application for a grant of £99,000 was successful. Thank you to Heritage Fund officer, Caroline George, who assessed our application and put our case to the National Lottery Heritage Fund panel who awarded us the grant. Permission to start the Project from the Heritage Fund came in April. Now the serious work could get underway.

MAY
First job - removing the technical equipment before MCR21 goes to the vehcle restorer, Ward Jones.

JUNE
Students from Royal Holloway, University of London, interview two of the original crew of MCR21. Harry Coventry was senior cameraman talked about how he covered the winning goal at the 1966 World Cup Final at Wembley.
Vision Engineer, Roger Pearce, talked about, as a young boy, he was attracted to the idea of working on television outside broadcasts.

JULY
The BBC arrive in force at Brian Summers home - part of the Radio Berkshire Breakfast Show was transmitted from inside MCR21 and BBC South filmed a report which was shown on their evening regional news programme - South Today.

AUGUST
Over a weekend in August, the MCR21 Project was launched at Amberley Museum in West Sussex.

SEPTEMBER
Students from Solent University helped record the output from cameras covering the motor racing at the Goodwood Revival. The recordings will form part of the MCR21 display.
|
|
OCTOBER
More students from Solent University help create a 1960s outside broadcast at the Concorde Jazz Club in Eastleigh where the Ben Holder Jazz Quartet were performing. Some 'seasoned' BBC OB people, including Harry Coventry, were on hand to give advice.

ALSO IN OCTOBER - MCR21 ON THE ROAD
Leaving Camberley on its way to vehicle restorers, Ward Jones
in High Wycombe. Students from Royal Holloway record this significant point in the restoration prgramme.
