Which one was your favorite growing up? The Ghost of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, or Christmas Yet to Come? The Past was always so lovely, so rose-colored when looked upon from a distance; the Present was the jolly one, awake to the right now and blissfully free from both the burden of hindsight and the dread of what may be (or, worse, what may not be any longer). But the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come--terrifying! Portrayed as Death himself, cloaked and no-faced, he was always the most frightening chapter of The Christmas Carol (and the part we always fast-forwarded through). But ignoring the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come is a luxury of the young.

The future is at our doorstep in the form of a NEW DECADE, and we don't have to sit and twiddle our thumbs waiting to see how it will all shake out! The point, after all, is to glimpse the future so that we can change our present. What will the new decade hold for us? We're here to ask this question (and make sure the answer isn't so scary) together.

So, take some time during these last two weeks of 2019
to look behind you and all around you, so that come January,
you'll know how to move forward.
We've been working on a nostalgic little project for the Latino Studies newsletter that will bring our community even closer together, but it requires your help! We're collecting bits and scraps of our Latinx lives to share with the larger Latino Studies family. Send us family lore, the secret
ingredient in your grandma's mole recipe, the bizarre cold remedy your mom swears by but actually works, something your no-nonsense tio has been saying to you for years, and so on.  There's so much we can learn from each other! Let this be a space for our collective memories...
