Through DAC’s Art and Leadership programs, GOAL and BART, middle school girls and boys learn about leadership, self-esteem, identity, and other important life skills. Community leaders mentor students at a time when making healthy lifestyle choices is critical in their lives. In 2020, we want to expand these programs to meet the increasing demand. With your help we can make that happen.
Another program that makes me immensely proud of the DAC is Creative Minds, through which adults with disabilities from Community Connections create art at DAC. When asked about this program, Bailey Carlson, Lead Direct Support Professional at Community Connections writes,
“I have seen the eyes of the individuals light up when we tell them that we are loading up to go to the Arts Center. I have seen them clutch their projects as we leave and show their host homes and friends. These pieces are not just art projects, they are victories of being able to hold a paintbrush or pull a string through a small hole. Tasks that we see as easy can be incredibly difficult for the individuals that we at CCI provide care to.”
When I talk with the people we serve, I know we are providing a unique service that brings joy and hope to their lives. That matters – a lot. One person at a time, the DAC is making a difference. Thank you for considering making a gift to the DAC. We are grateful for your support in making our mission a success.
I hope the new year brings you the sorts of gifts you can’t find under any Christmas tree--the gifts of inner peace, health, creativity, and most of all, love.
Happy New Year!
Warm wishes,
Brenda Macon
