Lead Pastor

My goodness this year went by quickly.  The hours and the days sometimes will feel long, but the weeks and the months seems to go quicker all the time.  I certainly hope you had a great Christmas season. I not only believe that Jesus is the reason for the season, but He is the reason to get up in the morning.  He is the reason to get up and go to work. He is the reason to train up your child in the way he should go. He is the reason to live life to the fullest with the people He has put in your life.

January is usually a tough month for many people.  We feel the effects of Christmas. The letdown of family leaving, the memories that were years ago and people not with us anymore.  Paying off credit cards and wondering if we over spent. Being reminded that what you purchased was not what they had hoped for. January is also commonly the beginning of the coldest weather.  The cold certainly affects our actions and moods. It’s much harder to be joyful in 5 degrees than it is in 60 degrees.

As we head into the new year, we will begin a series on the Old Testament books of Ezra and Nehemiah.  Ezra speaks to us about faithfulness in worship and obedience while Nehemiah will teach us about the Lord’s protection.  We will hear about the building of a temple and the rebuilding of the same temple. It will be a great reminder to anyone, that there is always hope that lives can be restored,  marriages can be rebuilt and relationships can be reconciled. Restoration, rebuilding, reconciliation and reviving our hearts does not happen because we want them to. It happens because we allow God’s spirit to work in us AND we put forth the effort and desire to make change happen.

I look forward to seeing you in January and focusing on our relationships with Jesus, family and our community.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your prayers, cards and gifts this Christmas season for my family.  It is so appreciated.

Congratulations to Arabella McDowell baptized

Dominican Republic
Luis Peralto,

God is at work in the Domincan and here are a couple of highlights from Luis:

Baptism of 9 people, including 7 teenagers, the pastor's youngest daughter and the only child of the secretary.

Delivery of school supplies to children in need of ministry and community.

There are many ways you can pray for our sister church in the Dominican Republic. Below are the requested prayers from the church at this time.

Urgent needs:

A local area for work with children because we have difficulties with the physical space used so far, which is the temple where we come together and we are praying to God for a second floor to separate church and children's center.

A bus to transport some children who are very distanced from the temple and their parents who wish to visit the church ABCs and because of the distance it difficult. We ask pastoral prayer for the family, for the church and for these needs.

Commission Coffee Corner
Every Sunday, coffee is ready at the Commission Coffee Corner before worship and ABF Classes. Coffee is free, but as you fill your cup, you may notice a jar for donations on the counter. Your donations support a different mission organization each month that is working to bring the good news to all corners of the world.

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” 1st Timothy 2:1-4

It is very clear that our nation is in need of prayer. You can turn on your television or scroll through your Facebook news feed and see that there is so much violence, corruption, fear, and hatred in the hearts of those around us. It’s alarming to see the tension and division manifesting from the politics of our country. It’s sad to see Christians getting caught up in the mudslinging and slandering that goes along with it. It does not paint the most welcoming picture to those that may not follow Christ. Christ has called us to love one another, even if they have differing beliefs. Republican, Democrat, or other; Christ wants them all to be saved.

As followers of Christ, we have a very important responsibility and priority to pray not only for the healing of our nation but also for our president and all those in government leadership who are in positions to make change happen. To pray that the leaders of our nation turn their hearts and minds to Christ. To live beyond reproach, to live in such a way, people can not deny that Christ is living in them and working through them. 1 Timothy 2:1-3 says that we are to pray, intercede, and give thanks for kings and all people in authority. This is God’s command for us to do this peacefully and quietly in our lives.

Christians can and should take part in politics. We should be active in proclaiming the name and teaching of Jesus in all areas of our life. However,  we should not be doing this at the expense of others, and we should not do this while tearing others down. The world is watching, let them see us lifting each other up in prayer, instead of pulling others down. Let them see us living with humbled hearts, slow to anger so that when we point them to Jesus, they will be willing to follow. Let us extend the same grace and compassion that God gives us daily.

If you are looking for a distraction free, quiet place to connect with God please join us each week for a time of prayer on Sunday nights from 6pm to 7pm.

  SEEK GOD DAILY

Derek made mention recently that 2020 brings me to my 20th year leading the children's ministry at NTCC. He asked me what one thing I would want to tell parents if given the chance. I realized that through the newsletter, I have the chance every month, and that I have more than one thing that I would want to tell our parents and families. So in 2020, I hope to share one thing each month that I have learned and believe to be true when it comes to spiritually training HiSKidZ. Short and Sweet, here's one thing for January 2020.

SEEK GOD DAILY. When we are seeking God through His Word and prayer daily, we are changed. He fills and empowers us. We cannot pass on what we do not possess. So we must be walking daily with Him. We can help you with this one thing. If you are interested in taking this step in your faith walk, let me know and let's walk together.

In order to help families grow stronger, NTCC families is offering Families on a Mission calendars now at the church. FOAM calendars are packed with ideas for you and your family to connect, serve, and have FUN together. Each month focuses on a different character quality and is packed with fun ideas and activities. Do them all or just a few. Find what works for your family and start the year as a Family on a Mission for Christ!

Jan. 1--New Year's Day--No KidZRocK
Jan. 8--KidZRocK Resumes

"Failed It" is our new Wednesday night series at KidZRocK. In January, we will be learning that when we fail, there is still hope, we don't have to give up. HiSKidZ will be studying the life of David--a man after God's own heart--and a man who had some major fails in life but didn't give up. He repented, returned and was restored to God.

NTCC's Youth Programming, TheLoft, for grades 6-12, exists to  EQUIP ( bible study, acts of service, evangelism), and ENCOURAGE (prayer, fellowship, discipleship) students towards a LIFE CHANGING,CHRIST CENTERED LIFE.

Greetings from The Loft!

Going into 2020, I'd love to split the Junior and Senior High grades up on Sunday morning. We currently meet together, but believe separating the two groups would provide a more focused program. To accomplish this goal, we would need two females and a male sponsor to help facilitate the class. If you have a solid grasp of the Good News, a willingness to teach, and a heart for youth, please email me. If teaching is not your thing, I am looking for people to help provide meals/snacks for Wednesday night programming. Many of our students come straight from school/practice and come hungry. It’d be nice to feed them something physically to help them focus as we feed them spiritually. If you’re willing to make a somewhat healthy (not sugar-heavy) snack or meal for 30-40 students once a month, please email me.

Again, I can’t thank our church family enough for all the support you’ve given the students and me. God provides, but I appreciate everything you do alongside Him. Please continue to keep our sponsors, the youth, myself, and the church in your prayers.

To God be the glory,
Calvin Stevens

Keokuk Christian Academy hopes that everyone had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We want to encourage all families to consider the benefits of Christian education. While the world presents life as a hopeless stream of ambiguities, we give students the opportunity to follow Christ and find their identities in Him. Each week students are exposed to Christian curriculum, memorize Bible verses, pray with each other, and worship their creator.

Our program starts in preschool with three-year-old preschool on Tuesdays and Thursday and four-year-old preschool on Mondays, Wednesday, and Friday. We also offer a K-12 program for students of all ages.

Even if you aren’t ready to make the change this year, we are starting to take enrollments for the 2020-21 school year. To learn more, our annual open house will be on Thursday, February 6 at 6:30. If you have questions, please call our office and schedule a tour anytime by calling 319-524-5752.

Finally, we want to thank everyone who contributed to the Phyllis Benner Memorial. She and Ed have been some of KCA’s greatest champions. They have understood the sacrifices required to offer a private Christian education in one of Iowa’s poorest counties. We thank the community for believing in that vision and helping us continue to reach the area’s youth. Praise be to God!

Adult Bible Fellowship: Sunday Mornings are just the beginning!

9:00am:

This study will dive deeper into these two books of the Old Testament and is meant to coincide with Derek's new Sermon series beginning January 5. This study will cover many topics including, rebuilding, renewing and repentance; you wont want to miss it!

10:30am:

Standard bible lesson is used to study one topic over a three month period. This quarter, the topic is Honoring God. Each week, the lessons will study a passage from the Bible in reference to Honoring God. The benefit of this study is that each lesson is independent of the others. So, if you miss a week or start late you are never behind and always at the same pace as the class. Come and join us!

For more information about our ABF ministry, please see Chris Mickelson or contact the NTCC Office 319-524-8727

At 6:00pm:
Sunday Night Prayer

Join New Testament Christian Church on Sunday nights, from 6pm to 7pm, for a time of prayer. This service focuses on seeking our God together as the Church through singing, scripture reading, and praying in groups, with a friend, or by yourself. For more information, please see an NTCC staff member.

Small Groups are currently meeting at various locations throughout the tri-state area. Spiritual growth continually occurs in small group cultures, and we encourage every member of NTCC to plug into a group or ABF.

God uses small group studies to help us BELIEVE, BELONG and BECOME all He desires for us as His body.  Small groups are a great way to connect and be a part of what God is doing in lives here at NTCC.
