Hello Lovely Student Community!

In between torrential rain storms, a beautiful sunny Italian day has encouraged me to finally sit down to write a winter newsletter. I hope you all are finding positive outlets for your frustrated flying energy as we roll around towards Christmas.

Summer 2020

Over the course of the next few months I will be assembling an amazing team for summer 2020. The season will start as usual around the last weekend of April at Regents Park, followed shortly after by Kensington Gardens. Opening weekend is always a blast so watch out for more incredibly accurate newsletters which will let you know when the website bookings will be opening.

Gift Vouchers!

In the meantime - did you know it’s possible to buy class vouchers on our website? These make a great Christmas present. Shared experiences make great gifts, so consider giving someone the gift of flight and the gift of being welcomed into this amazing community!

Class vouchers will be redeemable as soon as classes go on sale in early April and last the whole of the 2020 summer flying season.

Also for summer 2020 watch out for the class level requirement updates. I want to ensure that our flyers get as much bar time as possible and in order to make that happen, I'm going to be tweaking which skills fit into what level!

As we have gone our separate ways for winter I thought it would be nice for you to hear about what all your lovely instructors are up to!

Walisson and Giovana have completed a wonderful second retreat in Sao Paulo at Trapezio Voador where they were flying for the last few months. I’m sure the beach-side, swimsuit clad photos fill you with as much wanderlust as me, so go get out there!  More recently they both returned to Walisson’s hometown to relax with his mother, daughter and family as he prepared to donate his kidney to his mother! The operation was successful and he says he is now back to walking, cooking and spinning his flow staff and feels ready to throw doubles again soon… What a rockstar.

Lindsie is enjoying the Europe tour of a life-time and is currently in Spain and about to head across to Portugal. She says she is missing the rig and is itching to climb things but very much enjoying all that Europe has to offer. She will be heading back to Australia in January and says although she is working hard on her handstands her triceps are shrinking!

Jess is still thriving at Club Med Opio as a fly and circus coach as well performing. She is also  making lots of progress with her doubles trapeze partner Jessie, they are inspirational! They will soon both head out to Australia to perform at some festivals and shows and see Jess’ family. In the new year she hopes to head over to Emerald City in Seattle and says she hopes to see you all there.

Brenna is back in Bristol teaching on their amazing youth circus program which just performed an Addams Family themed promenade show. She says she is very proud of her students. She will spend some of the winter in Australia for some sun, flying and family time!

Ben says that after swapping the fly bar for a laptop in London he has been seriously missing being in the air. He is excited to be flying again for a few weeks in Glasgow at Aerial Edge and is hoping that his next work project will find him located near to a rig!

Bruno has been spending time in France, collaborating on the creation of a new show. He has also been training and running wonderful workshops in Toulouse which have been keeping a few of our addicts off the ground! Currently he is back in London to relax a little before returning to France for more workshops. Bruno says he is jumping with happiness as during this time in London he and his partner Aga have become engaged! Congratulations to them both and we expect to see them both next summer!

Hula, our amazing business manager, has been working with a company called Active Training Team who use immersive theatre to change the health and safety culture in the construction industry. She is also looking forward to getting to attend the 44th Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival in January.

Agathe has returned to smash her university studies which she will finish in about a month. She then hopes to start an internship relating to humanitarian aid for an NGO in Paris. Otherwise, she is still flying and teaching a lot in Bordeaux with Compagnie Crazy R. They recently created a show on petit volant for a national event in France to promote circus arts. She says they are really proud and happy with their show and will soon release a promotional video on Crazy R’s facebook page. Go check that out! She hopes you will come and fly with her in Bordeaux!

MattMatt has also been in Bordeaux since leaving London, with fabulous Crazy R, where he was also involved with their petit volant show. He also worked alongside Bruno to create a full size flying show with Envol in Toulouse.

Justin managed to make it to Washington DC to work at TSNY and is enjoying settling into their community. He says their school is great at nailing really solid fundamentals and is hanging out with Tucker Smith who some of you may remember from summer 2018! He will be performing as the catcher for their student performance course and flying in a staff show, most likely throwing a pirouette and a shoot! He also has ambitions to swing high enough to touch the roof of their temporary tent structure. He invites you all to go and fly with him either at TSNYDC or in Cabarete in the new year!

As for me, I have landed happily amongst the wonderful families of Rony Roller circus who work a circuit around the suburbs of Rome. Their show is a lovely example of the traditional circus world and I am really enjoying the work and lifestyle. I am sharing the platform with the brilliant Mathew Herman whom many of you will know from the school as well as Gorilla Circus’ professional shows. Our amazing catcher is the eponymous Rony Vassalo who is also the shows’ lion trainer! I have been mostly spending any spare time learning Italian and eating pasta.

Ciao

Holly
