This session will explore how communities, investors, and developers are leveraging the Opportunity Zone incentive to drive capital into distressed urban communities. Through examples of best practice, as well as case studies of projects already underway, panel members and attendees will have the opportunity to explore how these lessons might be adapted for other communities across the U.S.

Demand for impact investing beyond venture capital and mutual funds is growing with new generations of investors. Millennials and Gen Zers want to integrate “doing the right thing” into everything they do, especially where their money goes. Digital banks, low-minimum funds and donor-advised funds are making it easier for people to integrate impact into all aspects of how they transact. This panel will explore the barriers crossed and opportunities seized by leaders in the “impact for all” movement, as well as what the future could look like.

This session will review methods for increasing minority and gender equity at the organizational and investor levels. After reviewing case studies from the corporate world, higher education, training programs, and accelerators, participants will have the opportunity to identify key issues and discuss intentional investor strategies.

 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE HIGHLIGHT

Mitch Stevens is a learning experience designer at Stanford University with a focus on nontraditional learning environments and creative work spaces. His background in children’s publishing often lends narrative and imaginative qualities to his work. "The Girl Who Painted the Sky" is an immersive prototype about the idea of contribution. The story follows a little girl who wishes to contribute to the creation of her world. Mitch's installation at the 2020 Summit explores uncertainty we have when we’re unsure if our work is having a significant impact in the world.

JiWon Moon is a Brigham Young University student who is studying illustration and studio art. She is a mental health advocate and is interested in how personal well-being and the understanding of positive and negative emotions can evoke true happiness. She will showcase her 8 piece series, "A Meaningful Life," at the 2020 Summit. The installation will challenge the viewers to consider a different definition of happiness—living a rich, full, and purposeful life, experiencing a full range of emotions. Throughout her series, the viewer is encouraged to reflect on their experiences while asking themselves, "How has this emotion contributed to my life, and the lives of others?"
