Hey <<First Name>>,

If you’re in the US, I hope you’re off today and gearing up for the holidays! Tomorrow we are driving up to see family for a few days, and the next stop is my hometown to hang out with friends (and also the perfect time to cringe at high-school Luxe's fashion choices). Then back here in time for New Year’s where I’ll be ringing in 2020 at my friend’s apartment, hopefully enjoying a drink from their drink fountain.

Latest Post

Last night, I was looking at a bag to buy, and I asked my husband what he thought. Should I get it? He said, why don’t you just sell that other bag you have? And I realized how lucky I am that my husband never ever judges my spending, because couples and finances are often wrought with anxiety. So today I’m sharing how we came up with our own money system, from the ground up. What did our spreadsheets look like, and how did we figure out the numbers? If you’re looking for something that’s beyond whether to merge or maintain separate finances, I’ve laid out the nuts and bolts on how we created our money system, step by step.

I haven’t done a roundup in a while, but wanted to send a final one off for the year. Here are my favorite links lately:

How to Succeed When You’re Marginalized or Discriminated Against at Work

I have so many stories where I’ve been marginalized I could probably write a book about it! If you are in a position of power at work, it’s worth thinking about how you might be able to help someone else who has more obstacles to overcome.

The Tarte Tatin I Wish I Made

I have tried and failed to make a tarte tatin many times. Who knew you couldn’t substitute ingredients? (OK, everybody knows that except for me.) I recently made a Tyler Florence recipe, which ended up OK, but then I realized it probably would be smarter to stick with Smitten Kitchen.

The First 100K Is the Hardest…

I shared this over Instagram, and people seemed really interested so I’m dropping the link here, too. My friend Erin recently accomplished a $100k net worth, and here are the first few lines of the post:

“I’m in my mid-twenties. I live in DC, an area known for being hella fucking expensive. I work at a non-profit, and no, I don’t make “a non-profit salary” that just happens to be six figures.”

It’s really important to hear money achievements from people who don’t have unusual circumstances. Sometimes I even feel like I’m in the category of “unusual circumstances,” so I’ll always try to highlight voices with more relatable stories.

Holiday Movie I’m in the Mood to Watch

Lars and the Real Girl! It has a strange premise, but always makes me think of winter and holidays. And of course, the ending is heartwarming af. What’s your favorite holiday movie to watch?

And Finally, Sales to Watch
*Affiliate links below*

Today Anthropologie is having a 30% off sale on EVERYTHING, so that means you can stock up items that don’t go on sale, like:

I’d be looking at housewares, in particular.

The time between Christmas Eve and New Year’s is also when I normally see the deepest discounts that rival secondhand prices. Like, a-bag-that-normally-costs-$800-can-now-be-had-for-$192 type of discounts. Here are the stores I’m watching my e-mail for:

Want the curated finds? My individual picks are here.

That is all for now! Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!
